There’s oh-so-much hoopla floating around about Chanel’s ever-sold out midnight nail hues (Black Satin and Noir Ceramic). It’s almost as if they only made 30 bottles of each shade, distributed half to the young American trendsetters (Lindsay, Nicole, Paris, both Jessica’s) and quietly put the rest on sale at one or two select Chanel counters in NYC and LA.
As luck would have it, it’s almost damn near impossible to find good bottle of black anywhere, even at the drugstore or your friendly neighborhood beauty supply store. Sure you can find any old bottle of black polish, but you’ll just be painting on coat after coat after coat of an I-shouldn’t-even-be-allowed-to-legally-call-myself-black, super-thin, el cheapo version, and that’s no fun.The trick to getting this look just right is to find a bottle of thick, opaque black polish. We’ve been conditioned to think that the black Chanel shades are the absolute best, but even if you’re lucky enough to find a bottle, you may not want to (or be able to) spend $18 for a teeny tiny 13ml bottle. Here, I’ve rounded up my favorite three bottles of opaque black polish that are just as good, at least 60% cheaper, and you may (I repeat, MAY) even be able to find a bottle around your way.
Essie in Licorice, Rimmel in Black Satin, and Milani in Black Magic.
Enjoy!
