Exclusive Interview with Bianca Alexander of M.A.C.

It’s been a while, but I’m back to blogging! Miss me? Don’t hate me - I’ve been crazy busy! A lot has happened since I last posted here - during fashion week, I spent everyday in the tents – I attended over 30 shows, covered trends backstage for almost 20 shows, survived on lattes and French fries – all the usual things a beauty editor does during fashion week. I must admit, the most interesting thing I did was spend a day with Barbie! Barbie looked SO BEAUTIFUL! I was lucky enough to chat with Bianca Alexander, Director of Makeup Artistry for M.A.C. She created Barbie’s lovely look!

We spoke about this lovely look she created for Barbie for a television segment:

India-Jewel: What products did you use to create her smoldering eyes?
Bianca Alexander: So, we’ve used Barbie Loves M.A.C. on the eyes, we have two eye shadow colors. The darker one is Moth Brown, which is a beautiful charcoal brown, which is metallic. We’ve basically put it right over the eyelid, shading the intensity, darker from the lash line blended upward towards the crease. Then on the brow bone we highlighted with Whistle eye shadow, which is a beautiful light pink shimmer.

IJ: Did you use an eyeliner?
BA: Before you even start with the eye shadow, it’s a good idea to work with creamy products first. I used Smolder Kohl Pencil just to rim all around the eye through the upper lash line through the lower lash line. When you blend that, it’s going to give you a smokiness that’s ready to be set with eye shadows.

IJ: Her skin looks like a dream… what did you use?
BA: I used a couple of different things – one of my most favorite foundations at M.A.C. is our Studio Fix Fluid Foundation. It seems like it would give you a lot of coverage, but when you just use it very lightly with a brush, you get a really beautiful matte natural finish on the skin. On top of that to highlight, I used Hush Cream Colour Base, which basically is just a skin tone creamy eye shadow – it’s safe to use everywhere (on the face) to highlight all of the high planes on the face.

IJ: And the cheeks?
BA: On the cheeks I used a beauty powder called Pearl Blossom, it’s a shimmery product that comes pressed in a compact and it’s perfect for just highlighting on the skin too.

IJ: Let’s talk about the lips.
BA: Out of the Barbie Loves M.A.C. collection, we used Honey B. cream stick liner along with Malibu Barbie lip gloss.

IJ: That lip gloss is so bright! It looks totally different on her.
BA: What that lip gloss does is, it’s very sheer although it’s bright pink and with a neutral lip pencil, it comes off pretty natural.

IJ: Does this work on all complexions?
BA:
Yeah, it’ll work on everybody. You just have to switch up the lip pencil.

IJ: I love her lashes. Which set did you use?
BA: Well, false lashes require three steps. You need to curl your lashes first, then you need to apply a little bit of mascara so that they’ll blend in nicely with the false lash band, and then the false lashes I used in Barbie’s case is very dramatic – they’re M.A.C. No. 6.

IJ: Lastly, how long do you think it takes to do a full face using this collection?
BA: It varies – it depends on your experience with makeup. It’s certainly something you can learn to get done in fifteen minutes.

Well, there you have it. All you need is fifteen quick minutes and these products from the Barbie Loves M.A.C collection!
