Exclusive Q&A with Chanel Iman

Yes you know who she is. She’s been modeling for four years (she started at the age of 13!). I caught up with the adorable model standing backstage with her mom and family friend. She’d just finished with hair and makeup, so I took a few minutes to get to know Chanel Iman the person, as I’m already fully acquainted with Chanel Iman the model.

GlamBlush: Who are you favorite designers?
Chanel: I like Marc Jacobs, of course. Also DSquared. For shoes, I really love Louboutin. I don’t own any, but I wear them all the time (while walking the runway). My friends are going to buy me a pair tomorrow actually!
GlamBlush: Congratulations! I actually just bought my first pair last weekend. They look so good, but they hurt sooooo bad. Anyway, how do you unwind after catwalk season? You’re all over the globe modeling back-to-back; NYC, London, Paris, Milan, what do you do during your off season?
Chanel: Oh I go back home to California, Los Angeles, where I’m from. I just like to drive everywhere because I have a license now, and I go to the beach, hang out with friends, relax and spend time with my family.
GlamBlush: So where do you live full-time?
Chanel: Here in New York. I actually just got my first apartment. I used to live in the Ford Models apartment for three years. Since I’m older now (Editor’s note: she’s 17), my mom and I thought it’d be best for me to move out. There are a lot of girls there, plus a chaperone, and my mom was coming in and out of town all the time, paying for hotels, and it just made more sense for me to get my own place.
GlamBlush: Quick question – are the other models nice? Are they modelzillas, LOL?
Chanel: Haha, for the most part, no. We’re actually a mini-family since we come from all over the world and leave our real families behind, we have our own little family unit now.
GlamBlush: That’s great. You haven’t finished school yet, have you?
Chanel: No, I’m currently being home schooled. Well, not actually home – it’s online. I take four courses a semester over the computer, and I can do it any time of day or night. It’s 24 hours, and it’s worldwide so no matter where I am, I can always get help. It’s called Keystone High.
GlamBlush: Lastly, what would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
Chanel: I’m actually looking into acting right now!
