Think this is a case of fashion and function fusing, or pure laziness?
British socialite/WAG Coleen McLoughlin was spotted leaving a hair salon over the weekend wearing a head full of curlers… maybe she didn’t have time to finish her hair styling session?
Says Coleen: “If I go to the hairdresser before a night out, I’ll often leave the rollers in and take them out at home… I don’t care what people think, as long as my hair looks good when I go out.”
Being that I’m all for getting ‘All Dolled Up’, I myself am guilty of stepping out of my apartment in rollers for a quick run to the corner store. Hell, I did it yesterday!
Though, I’m not a paparazzi magnet either… if I knew my photo was going to be snapped the moment I stepped outside, I believe I’d think twice about the entire world seeing me in curlers.
What about you? If you were always in the limelight, would you wear rollers in public?

NEVER.
I would never go out like that in public. I rarely leave the house wthout at least a little makeup… Coco Chanel said, “I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little – if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.” You could meet your future husband at the corner store!

Hey JustBekky,
You (and Coco Chanel) are right - my future husband could very well be at the corner store. Though, if destiny says we’ll marry, then I’m sure a few rollers won’t deter him from asking me out!
Or would it? Things to think about…

I’ve done it. I don’t make it a habit but sometimes it’s unavoidable. I don’t think it’s a big deal.

No, definitely not cute. But even if you do this, who’s gonna help you take them out and actually STYLE your hair?? Aren’t the rollers the prerequisite to the hair style battle??

I’ve only gone with rollers in my hair in the car…garage, car, take out quickly in parking lot, into building…this is unusual..my normal commute it 10 minutes.

If having great hair requires going out in public in hair rollers it is worth it. I have gone out in hair rollers.

I’m 62 so my approach is of my generation. I’ve been outside with my hair up a lot of times in my life–no big deal as far as I’m concerned.
And I live in the mid-western U.S. where it’s probably not as big a deal as on the coasts. When I do go out with my hair in rollers, I always cover my hair with a scarf. But when necesssary, I do what I have to do–few weeks, I’d just set my hair when my younger daughter called needing help at her place. I just jumped in the car & drove off.

I have and still do. there is nothing more femme than a good shampoo and wet set. I also use a scarf when I go out but will expose the rollers to dry my hair. still refuse to use heat devices on my hair

I have been doing hair for over 25 years. I have had clients leave with rollers in, many times, because of time, not wanting heat on hair, and more than a couple of women just enjoy wearing rollers in their hair, especially outdoors and at the mall etc. The age ranges are in all groups from 12 to 80 but the ones that are trying to save time and accomplish tasks while their hair dries are the 30 to 50 yr old. The ladys that enjoy the thrill are the 20 to 40 yr old. The ladys trying to protect the condition of their hair tend to be the 50 to 70 yr old. Teens have worn rollers home just to feel cool, but most are over that by the time the rollers come out. I have a huge supply of rollers that I either sell or loan. Sanitizing used rollers is up to me. Some of the over 60 group set their hair at home the night before and have me comb it out the next day.
