Malan Breton’s Lucky Star

Malan Breton of Project Runway Season 3 has come long way since being cast off the show. Perhaps he subscribes to the theory that when one door closes, a window of opportunity opens. Backstage at his show, the aura was just as calm and collected as Malan himself. He was warm, soft spoken, and very charming.

Since no designer can succeed without his GLAM squad, let’s talk beauty. The hair was created by stylist David Evangelista, who happens to own a salon in the famed Cornelia Day Spa. The chosen style of the day was a smooth bun, pinned intricately at the back of the neck, which was perfectly in sync with Breton’s collection.

The Makeup was done by the Makeup For Ever team, headed by Margina Dennis, who has been in the industry for thirteen years. I had a chance to briefly pick her brain:

GlamBlush: “How did you come up with the inspiration for today’s look?”

Margina: “The inspiration for the look today was from an old Julie Andrews movie called Star. And that’s what the collection is based on, it’s very glamorous… Malan’s clothes have a very classic feel to them. I wanted to design a makeup look to compliment them, but still look fresh. So I took the black liquid liner and taking Makeup For Ever goldflash color and actually extending it right along the lash line. Along with the black liner on top and the goldflash liner underneath so it make the eyes bright and pop. And on the darker models I used a teal liquid liner.

The skin is matte but it has a little sheen to it. So it’s not a wet look but it has a glow, it has sophisticated, ethereal look to the skin I used Makeup For Ever diamond cream color mixed it with a little moisturizer and added the foundation over it, so there’s just that hint of glow. And a nice peachy flush to the cheeks with a little gold in it; to compliment the clothes. Since there is a lot of brocades and rich fabrics I thought gold would be nice to compliment it. I love the flash palette, you can do anything with it. I think you’re going to see a lot of gold accents [in makeup] for the spring.”
