L’Oreal is definitely a leader in hair care products, and they’ve recently announced a couple new innovations to prove it.

The first is a treatment (to be available within 10 years) that will turn grey hair back to its original color. Sounds impossible, right? Though the details are fuzzy, L’Oreal seems to have the science and research to back the claim. Patricia Pineau, L’Oreal’s Research Communications Director, explains that our skin and hair contain pigment cells called melanocytes, which give them color. “When hair goes grey,” she says, “there is a progressive disappearance of the melanocytes from the hair. While there are still melanocytes in the hair, there is still hope that it could be re-pigmented.”
Since there’s still a 10-year wait on this revolutionary treatment, L’Oreal has another breakthrough for us to marvel at while we wait. They’ve developed a new hair colorant that is much gentler for the hair than its ammonia-reliant predecessors—INOA (Innovation No Ammonia). The product not only avoids damaging your hair, but it will also improve its condition with every use. We are definitely trying this out!
