#NYFW: Get the Erin Fetherston Spring 2013 Look
By Valis Vicenty September 06,2012
Erin Fetherston kicked off Fashion Week with a mix of sugar and spice. To complement her “feminine with an edge” Spring 2013 collection, the designer turned to MAC’s Lyne Desnoyers, Kérasdtase’s Odile Gilbert, and Butter London’s Katie Hughes for a beauty look to match.
To start at the top Gilbert crafted wavy tresses as Bridgette Bardot were vacationing in St. Tropez and incorporated a zippered headband to give a youthful spin that aligned with the look of the collection. “[Erin] wanted a girly, fresh, cool girls with a with a little touch of edge.,” she said. “The headband adds a punk touch.” She prepped the hair with Kérastase Mousse Volumactive and blew it dry before curling the hair in sections with a large barrel curling iron to create soft waves. She then took a full-length zipper and tied it underneath the head to make a headband. She opened the zipper up on one side of the head before tucking a twirled front section of the hair into the zipper to build a bang. She kept the look together with a few spritz of Double Force hairspray and a few drops of the new Elixir Ultime Rose Milleanaire at the ends to add shine.
The models then moved onto makeup, where Desnoyers “The images of inspiration that I received from Erin were photos from Ellen Von Unwerth, which are always extremely feminine,” she said. “It’s perfect for Spring and Summer because in makeup, we always flirt with a bit more texture.” To get the freshly feminine look, she kept the skin dewy and light, covering up belmishes with the MAC Cosmetics Pro Concealer Palette and evening out tone with a dusting of Mineralize Moisture SPF 15 Foundation. She then mixed up Cream Colour Base in Luna and Pearl to press into the cheekbones with a dusting of the upcoming Skinsheen Bronzer to warm everything up. She then drew out a ’60s style top lash liner look with the Kohl Power Eye Pencil in Feline that she then buffed the outer corner down into the lower lash line to set with Carbon shadow to snag the classic Ellen Von Unwerth eye. She mixed up a blend of white, orange, and mid-tone nude lip conditioners apply like a stain for the perfect pout.
“For the nails, she wanted the fingers to look like jewelry,” Hughes explained. “There’s a lot of embellishment going on in the collection, and the shoe options were silver and gold, which is why we opted for a silver and a gold.” Hughes used two coats of either The Full Monty or Lillibet’s Jubilee Nail Lacquer, depending on the shoe choice for a shimmering, yet soft, accessory. The full look captures a youthful, flirty spirit ready to greet the warmer season with a sense of fun and adventure!
