Making Waves: How to Get the Post-Beach Look

Devastatingly alluring, surf-inspired waves is the hairstyle to have this season after proving to be the standout beauty trend of the spring 2013 runway. Models on the Isabel Marant and Diane von Furstenberg catwalks rocked undone, natural tresses influenced by the long, loose curls of beach-going babes living oceanside, and we got the scoop on how to get the style without the salt water.

As you’ll be using a curling iron after your hair dries, it’s important to liberally spray your damp post-shower locks with a heat protectant to fight future destruction. TRESemme Platinum Strength Strengthening Heat Protect Spray not only prevents heat retention, but it also helps smooth strands for frizz-free waves.

Next, blow-dry wet, freshly sprayed hair using a blow dryer with a diffuser, starting at the roots to add volume. Use your fingers rather than a brush to sift through tangles and continually scrunch up the ends of your hair for extra lift.

Once hair has dried, separate it into different-size sections and spray each with a light holding spray. Then, use a curling iron, the bigger the barrel the looser the wave, to create your post-beach curls. Clamp down on the midsection of your hair and leave out the ends. Go back to straighten the ends with a straightening iron.

Tousle curled hair and spray once more with a holding spray. Voilà! Now show go off those effortlessly chic beach-inspired waves all season long.
