Today's Poll:

Who's in desperate need of a makeover?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Couple at bar.Valentine’s Day is this coming Sunday, so you’ve got a good 5 days left to land yourself a hot date if you haven’t already.

If you’ve been out of dating practice for a while (ahem, like myself), read these insightful tips from Dr. Thomas Connelly, a NYC-based cosmetic dentist, on the best ways to ensure you’re quite kissable throughout the night!

Remember to:

Floss. Bad breath can be caused by food still hanging out in between your teeth long after your meal is over.

Chew your garnish! Parsley and basil are a well-known home remedy for bad breath.

[Drinking] water will help thwart the dehydration effect of alcohol (and the icky smell). Order one glass of water for every drink and you’ll stay sober and sweet!

Mojitos contain lots of fresh mint, so order one and ask for an extra mint garnish to chew on after you finish your drink.

Order the fruit dessert. Fresh fruits have acidic properties that help to cleanse your mouth after a meal and flush away odor-causing bacteria.

What to Avoid:

Carbs cause the strongest breath odors. Foods that contain a lot of sugars, starches, and cellulose are all culprits.

Alcohol dries out the mouth, which reduces saliva production; saliva helps to cleanse your mouth. Also, alcohol consumption causes digestive problems, which leads to bad breath. So ease up on the cocktails, or you’ll be heading to the bathroom for more than one reason!

Fashion week is around the corner (already) and I’m preparing to pound the pavement armed with ridiculously high heels on my feet, a skinny vanilla latte in my left hand, my iPhone in my right hand, and a stack of show invites tucked in my oversize purse. But before I leave home each morning, I’ll follow my tried-and-true fashion week beauty routine for my eyes: a cooling gel for much-needed depuffing, a primer to keep my chocolate-color eyeshadow in place for the entire day, and a marvelous mascara to make my lashes a mile long.

I’ve been told on numerous occasions that I have great eyes, so I play them up as often as possible. When I’m feeling a bit blah, I wear royal blue mascara. When I’m feeling really tired, I wear brownish gold eyeliner to look more awake. When I’m feeling mischievous, I’ve perfected a sooty black eye, very similar to the one shown below.

firm-butt Bootylicious. Thong Song. Rump Shaker. Baby Got Back. Back That Azz Up. Daisy Dukes. We could go on and on. (But we won’t because some of the song titles related to big beautiful bottoms can get pretty racy.)

These are the tunes we can credit as being the reason as to why our generation pays so much attention to our posteriors.

Or maybe it’s the public’s fascination with the celebrity rumps of Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Biel, and Beyonce.

Whatever the case, it seems as if the whole world has gone batty for butts.

Tighter! Firmer! Bigger! Rounder! Everyone wants to re-sculpt their bums but aren’t really sure where to begin, so we decided to do a little research. We asked Mary Ann Browning, personal trainer-slash-founder of Brownings Fitness in New York City what it takes to turn a saggy bottom into a taut, perky piece of art, and she said, “All you have to do is lie on the floor with both feet parallel to the ground, and squeeze your butt cheeks really tightly while pulling the sides of your legs upwards and inwards.”

After you’ve perfected this fitness tip, massage your derriere with a cream that’s formulated specifically for this region. Below, our two favorite keester kits; get started and report back. Pun-intended.
