The Top Ten Beauty Moments of 2007
2007 was big in Hollywood. Aside from the repeat rehabbers, the DUI dramas, and every other gal getting bit by the pregnancy bug, it was also a big year for beauty. Blondes went brunette and vice versa, everyone went snip crazy, and pinup glamour became the look a la mode. Here, myself and Cliff (one of my FAVORITE beauty publicists) count down our favorite beauty moments of 2007.
10. Mariah Is Still Flawless
Cliff says: Does the women even have pores?! Mimi showed off her flawless skin with minimal makeup and a nude gloss and shadow, which go perfect with her sun kissed highlights.
India-Jewel says: This rarely happens, but Mariah’s look is the life and the death of her. She’s found a look she loves and she sticks with it. Baby pink makeup. Tumbling curls. Dumb doe-eyed look. It’d be nice to see you switch it up a bit, Mariah.
9. Beyoncé FINALLY Goes Brunette
India-Jewel says: Maybe it’s just me, but Ms. Beyoncé looks wayyyyyyyyy better with a darker hair hue. She was almost too monochromatic with blonde hair…
Cliff says: Dark is a nice change, but blonde Beyoncé is just more fun, except when she goes too over the top with the bronzer.
8. Rumer Willis Goes Platinum, Then Long
India-Jewel says: Truth be told, the bloggers beat this poor girl up CRAZY! It really seems like she can’t catch a break, which is sad, because she’s young – she should totally play with her look as much as she wants!
Cliff says: I think momma Demi could teach her a thing or two.
7. Alicia Keys Lets Her Hair Down… For Good
Cliff says: Gone are the days of various braided hairstyles, this year Alicia Keys showed us that she can let her hair down… and keep it that way. She’s rocked it bone straight and voluminously curly—and has wowed us all along the way. She always wears the perfect makeup as well. She’s a perfect 10 in my book!
India-Jewel says: I love it. I love it. I LOVE IT. Ms. Keys showed us how to get super sexy without taking a THING off.
6. America the Beautiful is no Longer an “Ugly Betty”
Cliff says: America Ferrera showed us that messy hair, braces, and glasses are really just for the show! This year she has sported sexy up-do’s and barrel waves with flawless makeup; she always manages to look classy and sophisticated without boring us. With awards season about to be underway, I’m sure the best is yet to come!
India-Jewel says: I like America’s pretty girl-next door look. She really blossomed quickly from adorable to flat-out gorgeous. Ugly Betty is really a babe! ‘Nuff said.
5. Jennifer Hudson Upgrades to Glamazon
Cliff says: Jennifer evoked old Hollywood style glamour with these luscious 1940’s waves and extra long lashes; she finished off the look with dewy skin, striking yet subtle shadows and a bright lip, which is BIG these days. And girls, wouldn’t you DIE to have those brows? We see why this is Andre Leon Talley’s favorite girl—Utter perfection!
India-Jewel says: I agree. J. Hudson has the whole 40’s sexpot look down—move over Ava Gardner. Jennifer Hudson stole your look, and Marilyn Monroe’s curves. Double whammy!
4. Victoria Beckham Goes Blonde
India-Jewel Says: I commend Posh Spice for embracing the LA lifestyle wholeheartedly–plus, who else could go from brunette to blonde and back, and look just as fab either way?
Cliff says: I agree, VB has the confidence to pull off any look–she is fierce personified. And is it just me, or does she never have a hair out of place?
3. Kate Moss Is “Banging It”
India-Jewel says: As the Queen of the chameleon clique, I thought Miss Moss would have given up on this trendy look by now. With that said, to see her embrace her brilliant bangs the way she has, makes me want to give her shaggy chic look a go on myself.
Cliff says: Kate definitely makes it work, and her hair is always so shiny and healthy—I’d love to see her go shorter in ‘08.
2. Rihanna Goes “Posh”
India-Jewel says: When photos surfaced of her with a sexy, inky black Aeon Flux-inspired bob, I thought to myself, “This is big for her. Icon status big.”
Cliff says: This edgy cut definitely took her to another level; I love how she occasionally changes it up by adding extensions or bits of color. If this is “…Gone Bad,” then sign me up!
1. Katie Holmes Joins the ‘Bob Squad’
Cliff says: Katie added more bang to her bob with this sexy new ‘do—her eyes are outlined to perfection and the soft lip and cheeks finish the look off without making it over the top—take a hint, Kim Kardashian!
India-Jewel says: Back up Cliff! Some of us LOVE Kim Kardashian’s hair and makeup (Click HERE and HERE to read my interview with her [SHAMELESS PLUG]). Back to Katie – little Joey Potter is long gone. I loved the original bob. I said it before, I’ll say it again – it really looks like a wig to me. A wig that would look fierce on a drag queen, or a much older woman. I preferred Katie’s first bob. (Another SHAMELESS PLUG!)
