BIG NEWS!!!!! Danilo Will be Guest Blogging on GlamBlush

You read that right - you can reach the ‘King of Big Hair’ right here on GlamBlush, as he’s my guest blogger for the month of July!

danilo.jpg

A little background on my mane man…

Self-taught in the artistry of “bouffantery,” Danilo uses nothing more than a Mason Pearson hair brush and a rat-tail comb to create outlandish styles both in front of and behind the camera. Danilo’s ultimate knowledge and insight into the world of hair care and styling has made him a must-have for musicians like Gwen Stefani, Courtney Love, and Christina Aguilera. In addition to his celebrated (and voluminous) music video creations, Danilo has worked behind the scenes at high-profile events such as the VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, and the 2003 Super Bowl Halftime Show with Gwen Stefani and Shania Twain. You may also recognize him as the hair stylist from seasons three and four of America’s Next Top Model with Tyra Banks. Haute couture fashion runways in New York, Paris, and Milan? Oh yeah, he’s been there too. Most recently, Danilo has launched a line of synthetic hair called Put-On-Pieces, to help bestow body and va-va-voom to the average girl’s hair. Says Danilo, “My passion is creating unique styles that make a woman feel beautiful, and the first step to that is taking proper care of hair with daily conditioning and healthy hair maintenance.”

Xtina Plays Lipstick Hue Switcheroo

Am I the only one who’s noticed something’s different?

Chantuese Christina Aguilera has been rocking a matte fuchsia lip for the past two weeks… think she’s over her usual red? I doubt it. My guess is her favorite tube ran out, and she just hasn’t had time to run to Sephora to pick up a new one. Being a new mommy and dining out every single night must take up all of her time.

Christina Aguilera Pink Lips

Anyway, while I love that she’s trying something new, and I actually like it - I must admit, I’m totally used to seeing the ‘Old Hollywood’ cherry red mouth, not the ‘Eighties Neon’ hot pink mouth.

What say you - which lip color is your favorite on Christina?

5 Signs of a BAD Manicure

Raise your hand if you’ve ever popped into an obscure nail salon in hopes of getting a quick, top-quality manicure at a ridiculously cheap price, only to be left disappointed with less-than-stellar results… Yeah, it’s happened to all of us.

manicure

Meet Nicole Dinh, a manicurist to the stars (Christina Aguilera and Dayna Devon, host of Extra TV show); she shares five signs of a bad manicure. While sometimes you may not notice manicure mishaps immediately, closely check your nails next time to see - it may be time to change nail salons.

1. Poor shape of nails.

Solution: Your hand size and nail bed should be assessed first, then shaped according to their size and proportion.

2. Ragged cuticles or hang nails.

Solution: Hang nails should be gently trimmed, never pulled on with cuticle nippers. The cuticle base should never be cut, only trimmed where there is excess skin.

3. Unfinished nail edge.

Solution: When filing natural nails, always use a fine emery board. Emery boards should be appropriate to the specific nail type, either fine quality for natural nails or coarse texture for artificial nails.

4. Poor polish color quality and application.

Solution: make sure your manicurist exercises proper technique to paint the nails, so that the nail bed is completely covered; the nail bed should not be visible on the sides of the nail. Only professional quality nail polish should be used in order to prevent streaking and/or uneven color texture.

5. Chipped polish the day after.

Solution: Nails should always be cleaned before polish is applied and a professional quality base coat should always be used. Manicures that incorporate proper tools, professional quality products and appropriate techniques typically last at least one week.

For more information about Nicole Dinh or the Nelson J Salon (350 N. Bedford Drive in Beverly Hills), please call 310.274.1553 or visit the website at www.nelsonjbeauty.com.

Christina Aguilera For Stephen Webster Jewelry

Well at least she scored a gig that didn’t require her to temporarily shed her signature Old Hollywood film star look…

Christina Aguliera for Stephen Webster

In these Stephen Webster jewelry advertisements, Christina Aguilera was photographed reenacting scenes from Dial M For Murder and Rear Window. As you can see, she’s still rocking the platinum pinned-up bob and the spider-y lashes, but of course my eagle eyes went straight for her lips; noticably different is her lipstick hue. For once, it isn’t her usual harsh cherry red, it’s a much-prettier-for-her-skin-tone raspberry!

Get her lusty raspberry pink lipped-look with Vincent Longo Wet Pearl Lipstick SPF 20 in Love Berry, available on Beauty.com for $23.

Christina Aguilera Launches Her Own Scent

Christina Aguilera Perfume

Just in time to join in on the “celebrities who launch their own fragrances” fun, pregnant songstress Christina Aguilera is releasing her own signature scent, named… Christina Aguilera!

About the fragrance, it’s inspired by Christina’s personal memories and reflects her playful sexiness. Says Aguilera, “To me jasmine has always been synonymous with old movie star glamour. It is such a beautiful scent and has great heritage in traditional perfumery, which I love. The blackcurrant tea note for me captures the vibrancy and happiness of my honeymoon. Its fruity, mouth watering scent reminds me of sitting on our Bali veranda in the heat, looking out over the most gorgeous sunset while sipping a cool, refreshing cocktail.”

I’d like to go on record as saying… I love Christina Aguilera. In thine eyes, she can do no wrong, and this fragrance ad is no different. It’s cheeky and provocative, but not overtly sexy. Plus - I LOVE the fragrance’s tagline - “Sometimes it’s all you need to wear.”

Watch the commercial! See her pre-pregnancy in all of her Marilyn Monroe splendor.

GlamBlush Beauty Awards: The Emmys.

Many of you may not be familiar with Rashida Jones, but I am. She’s the daughter of music mogul Quincy Jones and 70s model Peggy Lipton, and also one of Nicole Richie’s childhood BFFs… She’s not really a red carpet staple (as of yet), but nevertheless she gets an A+ from GlamBlush on this look. With raspberry red lips, face-framing fringe, and barely blushed cheeks, she fits in perfectly. You’d really never know she’s a newbie!

There’s just something extra special about stunningly beautiful actress Sarah Chalke. Everytime I see her on the red carpet, it looks like she’s just fallen in love – her hair and makeup always look oh-so-romantic. This time around, she went for lush, face-framing tumbling curls, ice pink lips, and a coy smile.

I was glad to see America’s favorite cheerleader, Hayden Panettiere, turn up on the red carpet looking like, well, an 18 year-old. There was no extravagant hairstyle, or three coats of candy apple red lipstick, or an insane amount of rouge… Hayden chose to accentuate her peach floor-skimming gown with only a smile (and dewy skin, glossy nude lips, and a low bun, of course).

GlamBlush disclaimer: I am a HUGE fan of big hair.

Now back to our regularly scheduled posting.

Granted, this look may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it. It’s very 60s prom queen – from the pouf-y pompadour/bouffant flip to the wing-tipped eyeliner, Ellen Pompeo’s homage to a beauty look made popular in the past really impressed me. It’s refreshing to see someone who isn’t afraid to experiment.

Gotta love Christina Aguilera. Bump or not, this not-yet-confirmed-mommy-to-be still knows how to pull out all the stops for a riveting red carpet appearance. Perfectly placed platinum do? Check. Flawless glowing skin? Check. Trademark red lips? Check. Looks like she didn’t skip one beat. That’s the mark of a true fashionista - that bump hasn’t slowed mommy down one bit.

Kimberley Caldwell’s red carpet look is youthful, fresh, and fun. I love her easy low ponytail paired with blunt brow-skimming bangs and a floral hairpiece. Toss in glossy nude lips, bronzy cheeks, and full set of lashes, she’s everywhere ready - from the beach to the red carpet, and anywhere in between.

I’m beginning to think Heidi Klum can do no wrong when it comes to red carpet looks. She’s clearly the undeniable Queen of the messy/marvelous updo. This time, it’s braided around the right-side of the crown, complimented by side-swept bangs and fluffy curls on the left.

Eva Longoria just knows what it takes to look absolutely fabulous on the red carpet. With flirty, shoulder-length highlighted curls, frosty ice pink lips, and lashes that almost touch her eyebrows, this actress has the ‘glamour puss’ look down to a tee.

My Oh My How Christina Aguilera Has Changed…

 glam-blush-christina-aguile.jpg

Hearing all of this hoopla pertaining to Christina Aguilera’s (possibly) impending pregnancy announcement, I started thinking - just how many beauty phases has Christina Aguilera been through? Let’s count:

  1. Teenage girl next door (Genie in a Bottle)
  2. Wild child (wearing afros and cornrows)
  3. Dirrrrrrrrty girl (who could forget the awful two-tone hair!?!)
  4. Vampy Pinup (hair bleached within an inch of it’s life paired with candy apple red lips)
  5. 40s Housewife (a less dramatic version of the vampy pinup)

Anyway, if she is pregnant, I wonder what beauty theme she’ll adopt next. GLAMonistas, let’s think: What look (that she hasn’t tried) would go best with her supposedly newest career aspiration: Mom?

While you’re thinking, click HERE to see her beauty phases over the last 10 years…
