Look Like Access Hollywood’s Maria Menounos!

Maria Menounos
Maria Menounos at The 15th Annual Race to Erase MS Red Carpet Extravaganza.

The theme of the red carpet event was Old Hollywood, and with that in mind, celebrity makeup artist Bret Boreman took his inspiration from the icons of the 1960’s and created a modern day ‘Glam Goddess’ look on Maria Menounos. “I took Old Hollywood, and gave it a modern twist,” says Boreman. “I wanted the look to have fresh, dewy skin with a stained red lip. To do this, I colored in the lips using a red pencil, then with my index finger, I pressed the color lightly giving the lips a raspberry red, stained appearance. For the skin, I combined a moisturizer with the Stila All Over Shimmering Illuminizer, massaging it into the skin, followed by foundation. This three-product combination; moisturizer, illuminizer and foundation conceals, protects and makes the skin shimmer for a modern take on a classic look.”

Get Madonna’s Hard Candy Cover Look

Madonna Hard Candy cover

In case you didn’t know, for the cover of her latest album Hard Candy, Madonna (the ultimate chameleon), called on Gina Brooke, the Artistic Director of Shu Uemura, to create her super sexy look. Says Brooke, “It’s all about the eyes and we were both inspired by images taken in the sixties by photographer Sam Haskins (Cowboy Kate, Five Girls, and November Girls). I wanted to put a modern-day twist on these beautiful photographs of beautiful women from the sixties”.

Here’s how Gina designed the look using Shu Uemura products:

STEP 1: Prepare the face
Begin with prepping the eyes with the Moisture Eye Zone Mask ($43). This will not only calm puffiness but it will give your eyes the ultimate hydration. Then apply Phyto Black Lift Firming Anti-Wrinkle Cream ($125) on the whole face – it’s an amazing moisturizer and also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Lastly, apply Face Architect Smoothing Fluid Foundation ($42) beginning at the arch of your brow down to the middle of your eye, directly onto the middle of the cheekbone. Each time the sun reflects off your skin, it will create the illusion of glowing, dewy, healthy, radiant skin!

STEP 2: Prime the eyelids
Using a Kolinsky Brush 11, apply Pressed Eye Shadow in M Beige 800 ($20) above the eyelids. Then, use Cover Crayon in 9YR Light ($24) in the inner corner and water line of the eyes to make them appear larger. Using the Drawing Pencil in Black ($19), begin at the inner corners extending the line out all the way to the end of the eyebrow.

STEP 3: Prep the lashes
Use the Eyelash Curler ($19) before applying Basic Black Mascara ($27.50) beginning at the base and rolling the brush through the tips of lashes. Apply Soft Cross Lashes ($20) to draw attention and enhance the shape of the eye.

STEP 4: Finish off with the lips
Since the focus is on the eyes, use Rouge Unlimited Crystal Shines in PK 301S ($23) layered with Gloss Unlimited in BG 930N ($22) for a soft, natural look.

How to Look Fresh-Faced and Fabulous

Ashely Olsen is incredibly inspiring to me. While she definitely takes risks in the fashion arena, her beauty look tends to more or less remain the same. I ran across this photo of her at the 2006 Independent Spirit Awards that sums up her preferred look perfectly:

Ashley Olsen Fresh-Faced

Her smooth glistening skin + lush upper lashes = PERFECTION.

Here’s everything you need to recreate her utterly flawless look:

foundation-mascara.jpg

For a seamlessly even, glowing complexion, brush-on L’Oreal Bare Naturale General Mineral Foundation. It’ll feel incredibly light on your skin, plus it’s infused with SPF & nurturing vitamins. BONUS: It’s perfect for sensitive or acne-prone skin since it won’t clog your pores. Can’t beat that.

For come-hither eyes, long lush lashes are key. Create standout eyes with Maybelline’s Define-a-Lash Volume Mascara; simply pull the brush from lash root-to-tip a couple of times, and you’re done.

Could achieving Ashely Olsen’s look be any easier? BTW - head over to your local Wal-Mart to pick both of these up must-have goodies up.

Dewy Skin Gone Wrong

Yes, spring has sprung.

From a beauty standpoint, I guess that means overly matte skin is out, and a bit of shine is the new skin look du jour. But when is a touch of dewiness a bit too much?

Renee Zel;weger shiny skin

We have our answer.

At the Maysville, Kentucky premiere of her latest film, Leatherheads, 38 year-old actress Renee Zellweger turned up on the red carpet looking downright shiny as opposed to dewy and refreshed. I wonder why?

Some say she undergoes a few extensive skin treatments before promoting a movie… I’m guessing a chemical peel. Sex and the City fans, remember when Samantha Jones had a chemical peel for Carrie Bradshaw’s book release party?

I’m just saying.

Luxe Alert: Chanel’s Sublimage Serum

If you’re a fan of Chanel’s Sublimage Cream, meet it’s successor - Sublimage Serum Essential Regenerating Concentrate.

Says Chanel: This lightweight, silky serum maximizes the all-around age-fighting benefits of the original — combating wrinkles, loss of firmness, dehydration, lack of radiance, and uneven pigmentation — through an exclusive Polyfractioning technique. Planifolia PFA*— the precious oil extracted from the powerful botanical fruit at the heart of SUBLIMAGE — is now infused into the enriched Planifolia water, creating a powerful formula that delivers twice the concentration of the cream.

Chanel Sublimage Serum

Angela Levin, a celebrity makeup artist for Chanel, loves to prep her clients faces with Sublimage Serum before applying makeup. “I always start the makeup process with an application of the Sublimage Serum. I feel it helps to create a smooth, silky and young overall look after I use the base. I usually wait about five minutes and let the serum saturate into the skin, before applying foundation. I used the Sublimage Serum on both Nicole Kidman and Marion Cotillard - and they love it!”

IMO, both Nicole Kidman and Marion Cotillard have lovely skin; maybe this serum is worth its hefty $385 price tag after all?

Christina Aguilera For Stephen Webster Jewelry

Well at least she scored a gig that didn’t require her to temporarily shed her signature Old Hollywood film star look…

Christina Aguliera for Stephen Webster

In these Stephen Webster jewelry advertisements, Christina Aguilera was photographed reenacting scenes from Dial M For Murder and Rear Window. As you can see, she’s still rocking the platinum pinned-up bob and the spider-y lashes, but of course my eagle eyes went straight for her lips; noticably different is her lipstick hue. For once, it isn’t her usual harsh cherry red, it’s a much-prettier-for-her-skin-tone raspberry!

Get her lusty raspberry pink lipped-look with Vincent Longo Wet Pearl Lipstick SPF 20 in Love Berry, available on Beauty.com for $23.

Look of the Day: Rebel Red Rihanna Shops in Paris

Sizzling songstress Rihanna was spotted strolling down Champs-Élysées in Paris earlier today (sans R&B boytoy Chris Brown) before she ducked into the flagship Louis Vuitton store for a little retail therapy.

rihanna-red-lipstick-paris.jpg

While many of you are probably focused on her racy red lips, I can’t stop staring at her skin; it looks like it’s been powdered within an inch of it’s life!

Rih Rih, back up off of the foundation.

On to the lips. Me likey! I think it screams sassy, sexy rebel chick. Get Rihanna’s lovely red lip look with Clinique Lost Last Shine Lipstick in Red Red Red; $14.

All About the 2008 Academy Awards

The Oscars…Tinseltown’s biggest night is finally upon us - thank goodness the writer’s strike ended! Sadly I couldn’t attend, but luckily I was able to spot three key trends from my very own couch!

~ LIPS: Retro is out (finally!), and modern is in. With the exception of Katharine Heigl (who went for full-on red lipstick), the lip color of choice was glossy nude. Cate Blanchett, Jessica Alba, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Renee Zellweger, Hilary Swank, Keri Russell… The list goes on and on. A few gals went for a flesh pink look: Helen Mirren, Nicole Kidman, Ellen Page, Anne Hathaway, Miley Cyrus… The point is, hopefully the ‘Old Hollywood Glamour’ phenomenon will be given a rest for a few more seasons…

~ HAIR: Pulled straight back is oh-so-boring! These ladies LOVE wearing their locks off-to-the-side: Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, and Kristin Chenoweth, just to name a few.

2008 Oscars Hair & Makeup

~ EYES: Hilary Swank, Jennifer Hudson, Penelope Cruz; Oh, the drama, drama, drama! Between out-to-there lashes and sparkly silver eyeshadow, on tonight’s red carpet, the eyes have it.
