For people who have extremely sensitive skin, like me, it’s important to find a good moisturizing lotion that works. Some types of sensitive skin are naturally very dry and others become dry in the wind and cold. “Avène Body Lotion with Cold Cream” incorporates the protective and nourishing benefits of traditional cold cream in a fluid formula. It leaves the skin feeling instantly hydrated, with restored comfort and suppleness. This non-greasy body lotion is intended for daily use after a nice relaxing bath or shower. The ultra emollient formula helps relieve skin suffering from extreme dryness and flakiness. It’s formulated with nourishing cold cream to enhance the skin’s protective barrier. Avène helps protect skin against moisture loss. It contains soothing and softening thermal spring water and white beeswax, which are known for its remarkable nourishing qualities. This cream will help protect your sensitive skin from moisture loss as it easily penetrates the upper layers of the skin to give a pleasant feeling of comfort to your very dry skin.
Available at Drugstore.com for $21.99.

Have you ever come home after a late evening at the office and just flopped into bed without washing your face? Well, don’t do it again! Rinsing off caked-on makeup and dirt from the environment unclogs pores and lets skin breathe free after a strenuous day. Glam girls with sensitive skin especially need a little more TLC and should use a soap-free cleanser as a nightly ritual. Pur-lisse Pur-delicate gentle soy milk cleanser uses freshening ingredients, such as blue lotus, lupine peptides, sea silk, and soy proteins to promote creamy, soft skin. Oatmeal and white tea soothe and protect your visage from cellular damage, and since the product is soap-free, it won’t strip the skin of natural oils that it needs. Follow up with a moisturizer before hitting the sheets, and you’ll never look like you had a hard night ever again.
Pur-lisse Pur-delicate gentle soy milk cleanser, $38; available at www.purlisse.com.

I was instantly enthralled by “Be Fine Food Skin Care” warming clay mask. The product promises to “treat your skin to a gourmet feast,” and that’s no joke. “Be fine” products hold 181 natural ingredients together, many of which are typically from food ingredients- everything from pineapple to cocoa! This purifying self-warming mask is a great way to give your face a royal treat- it heats up as soon as you put it on your skin for a natural facial detox. The warming breaks down unwanted oil and clogged pores, opening your skin to collect the benefits of cardamom and pomegranate, which naturally fight wrinkles, tone, soothe, and heal your skin. The arnica ingredient soothes and heals with its natural anti-inflammatory toning properties. Made with vegetarian proteins, the allergen-free fragrance is a delicious way to boost circulation and cell regeneration. All the while giving off an enjoyable aroma to help you relax during your cleansing experience!
Available at BeFine.com for $15.99.

Like it or not, summer is in full swing and your bikini is just waiting for a day at the beach. If you’ve been putting off showing some skin because of embarrassing bumps, fret no more. The best thing to hit the skin care aisle, Whish Flawless Bump Fighter gets rid of those little red pests and prevents them from forming the next time you go in for a wax or wield a razor. The magic ingredients include wheat germ extract to restore and smooth skin, willow bark to calm the hair follicles, and papaya extract to inhibit future hair growth. The potion looks milky in the bottle, but it dries clear for a quick application after your morning shower. Plus, Flawless Bump Fighter starts working right away, so you’ll be bringing out that bikini in no time.
Whish Flawless Bump Fighter, $22.50; available at WhishBody.com.

Do you know what springs out of the Fountain of Youth? Answer: Glycolic acid. Lucky for us, the hot ingredient for facial cleansers and moisturizers now comes in a product to use all over the body. DDF Glycolic Body Lotion restores smoothness, tone, and firmness to parched legs and arms by sloughing off dead cells and bringing brighter looking skin to the surface. Along with its main ingredient, DDF’s lotion uses Lactic acid to improve texture and make skin look younger. The downside to this great product: sunlight sensitivity. Be sure to wear sunscreen religiously whenever you use glycolic acid, or the Fountain of Youth will be wasted on you.
DDF Glycolic Body Lotion, $42; available at Sephora.com.

As a fairly tall girl (5′ 9″), I can tell you, growing up is hard work! After those awkward teenage years ended, I was left with stretch marks on my knees and all the boys shrinking in my long shadow. Luckily, after a while, the boys grew taller, but my thin white lines still hadn’t faded. So I went in search of a fabulous cream to whisk them away. That’s when I read about the medical-sounding StriVectin-SD, an intense concentrate for stretch marks, which promised to smooth out my annoying adolescent souvenirs. Well, little did I know, it’s also great for wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s feet, and all those other skin-related side-effects of getting older. The product claims to be “better than botox” and uses an oligo-peptide called Pal-KTTKS, which is known for its ultra-strength, wrinkle-reducing properties. For the next four to six weeks, three times a day, I’ll be massaging this cream on my knees and between my brows, hoping to erase the past and the future. Maybe growing up just got a little easier after all.
StriVectin-SD Intensive Concentrate for Existing Stretch Marks, $135; available at KleinBecker.com.

2-3 weeks into my test-drive of the at-home laser hair-removal treatment, Tria, I have to say I’m disappointed–not with the Tria though, but with me! I have been bad about keeping a regular schedule of self-treatments, is maybe the only downfall from not having the hair-removal appointment in a fancy-dancy spa: When I only have to be responsible and punctual to myself, I tend to flake out, something I’d never do to a laser-wielding pro! (Especially as I don’t charge a pricey cancellation fee!)

To remedy the situation I make “appointments” with myself, put TRIA in red in my calendar every other Tuesday night. So last Tuesday around midnight I cued up an old Dawson’s Creek episode on the TiVo, plopped down on the couch and went to work on my legs with the Tria—a comfy time and place I never could have enjoyed if I was relying on the spa for my laser hair removal treatment. As for the removal, so far so good. I don’t see a huge change yet, but because I am using the lowest intensity level and thanks to my irregular treatments, it’s still too early to tell how my hair is reacting to the laser. Check back soon as I’ll keep you posted after my next two rounds, which will be done on schedule—I promise!
