Luna Halo Performs Live - Exclusively for Glam

So, the up-and-coming rock band Luna Halo performed an exclusively for Glam. They are incredible live — and the songs are killer.  The first song, Kings of Queens, was the theme song the show King of Queens it’s last season on the air. It also recently was featured on the MTV show Newport Harbor. Watch them perform it live here…

The Hitman: Yes, It’s Actually Good.

So, going into this movie, I must admit I had a few reservations. It was about killing people, I wasn’t familiar with the lead female actress, and well, it was based off of a video game.  The only reason I allowed myself to be coerced into going was because I am slightly intrigued by assassins in general… well the fictional kind anyway. (I LOVED Mr. and Mrs. Smith.)

hitmanAnd, I really enjoyed this movie. First off, I love the main actor, Timothy Olyphant. I first saw him many years ago in Go and have loved him since. (And while Catch and Release was sub-par, his puppy-dog eyes were not.)

While the plot was slightly convoluted at some points, the fight scenes were actually extremely entertaining. And any movie that employs super-cool-though-most-likely-100%-fake gadgets gets a thumbs up from me.

And while I wanted to dislike the lead female, I ended up really liking her. I was even able to look past the tattoo on her face (I know it’s fake, but still…)  Her accent was cute, her lips were perfectly plump (watch out Angelina), and she didn’t die at the end. All pluses!

Overall, I give this movie 3 Gs (see my scoring chart below). Definitely see it but feel free to wait for Netflix to deliver it.

My Movie Grading Scale:
5 Gs:Glorious perfection on film.
4Gs: Great story, great cast, great movie.
3gs: Good. Not bad, but not great.
2gs: Go with low expectations.
1g: Garbage. Skip it.

Get Enchanted…

Hi. It’s Lauren from GlamScene again doing some guest-posting… Enjoy!

Enchanted - Movie Stills

Maybe I shouldn’t share how incredibly excited I am to see Enchanted. Perhaps I shouldn’t divulge that I’m going to see the flick tonight (its first night in theaters) to help kick off my four-day holiday weekend. And I most likely should not admit that I have plans to watch it with my parents…

Disney’s Enchanted stars an adorable Amy Adams (one of our November It Girls), a dreamy Patrick Dempsey, and a wicked Susan Sarandon. The fantasy-infused film is classic Disney fairytale meets contemporary NYC story. The pretty and perfect Princess Giselle somehow finds her way to real-life NYC. There, she meets a handsome lawyer played by the very princely Dempsey. Can a fairytale romance survive the harsh truths of life in the real world?

Stay tuned. I’ll let you know what I think of the movie. And bookmark this post, so you too comment with your own personal review of Enchanted! (Also, check out the official Enchanted website to see a preview, browse through photos, and more!)

Enchanted is in theaters today! Check here for movie times, and enjoy!

An Open Letter to the Bachelor

brad

Dear Brad,

How are YOOOOOOU? (Exaggerated Southern drawl optional) I am, sadly, not so well. You see I had my heart broken. By you. Yep, that’s right. Add another sullen sad-sack beat-down bachelorette broad to your list of not-so- successful love stories.

How could you? First you chuck cheery, wide-eyed cutie-pie Jenny with a flippant “talk to the hand”… And then as I’m grabbing my Kleenex tissues in prep for a poignant and emotional profession of love, you ditch Deanna too?!?!

I feel more violated than when Bachelor Bob Guiney dumped his chosen bachelorette in favor of the series repeat  host and All My Children soap-star Rebecca Budig!!!! (And that was a low point in my life.)

So, now do you see the magnitude of your mistake? You had me fooled with your disarming drawl and your charming smile. But, buddy, you are the biggest fraud in Bachelor history. Live with that.

Should I sign off this letter with “sincerely” or with “much love?” I know… I’ll pick neither.

The Knocked Up Screenplay

Hi! It’s Lauren from GlamScene subbing in with a few quickie blog posts on GlamBuzz… Enjoy!

Cover Image

I seriously heart the movie Knocked Up. Love, love, love, love it. I saw it in the theaters; I bought the DVD; and I even fantasize about Seth Rogen as the future father of my chubby mini-Seth children. (No, seriously. He’s hot.)

Anyway, I recently came across the Knocked Up screenplay, and I’m absolutely obsessed. It’s my go-to read-on-the subway book.

Judd Apatow, the genius behind Knocked Up provides a really fun and intelligent introduction. He explains how the concept for the film came to him while he was working on the 40 Year Old Virgin. Since he was on set with the actors, he couldn’t simply go into reclusive writer-mode, pull up a laptop, and start typing…

So he would email himself fragments and blurbs and ideas about the movie from his blackberry. He provides a few of these gibberish emails for our reading pleasure in the published screenplay. It’s really interesting to see the evolution and changes in his thought process. Here is one of my favorite blackberry emails. It’s Judd’s idea for a scene between Seth Rogen and Maude Apatow (his adorable young daughter who plays Katherine Heigl’s niece.) And for those of you who haven’t seen the movie yet… what are you waiting for?!?

Shoot improves with Seth and Maude.

If I shoot the kids from across the room so it is mainly someone’s pov of them, it will be easier to get usable material.

Maude can speak the truth.

She calls him Fred Flinstone. “Cause you look like him.”

At the party scene she says, “They said bad things about you, but I stood up for you. They said you loved your bong more that my aunt. What’s a bong?”

“Do you like Barney?”

“I’m eight. I like Gwen Stefani.”

How I Met Your Mother: Sooooo Good

So, I don’t really know a lot of people watching How I Met Your Mother on Monday nights on CBS. Which I think is too bad since it’s smart, funny, and totally on target. It revolves around 5 almost-30 somethings that live in New York City. The main guy, Ted, is the narrator. The show is his character looking back on 2007 from the future and telling his kids the story of how, you guessed it, he met their mother.

We’re in season three and he hasn’t met her yet, but I’m still hooked. As a 30-something in New York, the storylines resonate – and where shows like Friends were fun to watch, this one is so much more realistic. The jokes made are ones my friends and I have made before. While the jokes on Friends were funny, they weren’t realistic in the slightest.

Last night’s episode involved each character realizing that “one annoying thing” about each of the other characters. Lily chews loudly, Ted is always correcting people, etc.  It was very well done and if you have 22 minutes or so, I suggest checking it out.

Sidenote: I also LOVE the clothes that Alyson Hannigan wears on the show.

Ellen Degeneres: Her Side of the Story

So, the deal is, there’s a big writer’s strike in Hollywood and all the big name actors and actresses of all the biggest primetime shows aren’t crossing the pickets lines are standing alongside the striking writers. Ellen Degeneres made headlines late last week when she crossed the picket lines and filmed her show on schedule. In honor of her writers that were striking, she didn’t do a monologue. The funnywoman went on to explain that people had planned trips around attending her shows and traveled across the country to see her, and she didn’t want to disappoint her fans. Am I awful that I see her point? For shows taped in front of live audiences, particularly ones where the process of getting tickets can take months, I understand the desire to keep the fans happy. Especially when the show is your namesake.
