Today's Poll:

Casting Call: Who Should Be a New Doctor on Grey's Anatomy?

Archive For: December 2007

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Today’s Question: You’re having a dinner party and can invite 3 Hollywood couples to attend. Who are they?

Here is my guest list:

Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann (They’re both hilarious… and he was just named the smartest guy in Hollywood by EW)
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (Wilson’s articles in Harper’s are usually pretty good and Tom seems pretty down to earth and cool.)
Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi (Laughs from Ellen, Arrested Development Scoop from De Rossi)

Who would you invite? Comment below…

Spicy Sunday Nights

I just found out about this very cool new thing on Sunday nights. SOAPnet, the channel where you can watch same-day soaps at night so you never have to miss an episode even if you work, is launching a new Sunday night movie shindig. So each week, they show a flick sure to be entertaining.

soap.jpg

So why do I care? Because these are FUN movies. Guilty pleasure movies. Grab some popcorn and wine movies.  And because I’m sick of watching Titanic every other Sunday on the networks. This Sunday’s film is Kiss of Death. (I mean, the name ALONE grabs me!) It stars Samantha Who? Star Christina Applegate and is sure to be delicious. (Did I just use the word delicious to describe a movie? Yes, I did.)

And let me know what you think after you watch!

Sweeney Todd: Counting Down the Minutes

Johnny Depp, in my humble opinion, is one of the greatest actors of this generation. His interpretation of the character Captain Jack Sparrow was entertaining and unique.

And he’s doing it again.

sweeney-todd.jpg

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is a remake of an award-winning musical thriller that has delighted on stage for years. And now audiences can experience it on the big screen. But the best part might be the genius casting of Johnny Depp as the barber. I’m also excited about the rest of the cast – I love, love, love Alan Rickman (of Harry Potter fame though I love him from Love Actually) and Helena Bonham Carter always entertains. (and Ali G is in it!)

Opens tomorrow. Check it.

See the trailer here. And let me know what you think…

Arrested Development, The Movie?!?!?

Tell me it’s true! Tell me it’s so! There might be an Arrested Development movie! So here’s the scoop… I was reading one of my FAVORITE sites ever (Pajiba) and while there I saw a link to this blog post, that states that at several of the Juno press conferences, Jason Bateman (the legendary Michael Bluth) made some references to jump-starting a movie based on the series. ALSO, series creator apparently made this statement: “[The movie] something [they’re] very interested in doing, but only after the writers’ strike, and only if the powers that be approve.”  This doesn’t sound out of the realm of possibility to me!

 familydinner.jpg

While there has been some amazing new comedies to hit the small screen since this show went away (30 Rock and The Office, I’m talking to you), I just haven’t laughed as hard since Arrested Development.

Cross your fingers!

Backstage at Z100’s Jingle Ball Concert

z100.jpg

Glam was just hobnobbing backstage at the Z100 Jingle Ball Concert in New York City. The sold-out show, which benefitted Autism Speaks, featured artists like Fall Out Boy, Avril Lavigne, Alicia Keys, the Backstreet Boys, and others! We’ve got the behind-the-scenes scoop from your favorite performers…

alicia-keys_copy.jpg

Alicia Keys looked slamming hot in skinny pants, an eggplant top, and a green leather jacket. While the gorgeous girl didn’t do any interviews, she did stop in the press room for a couple quick photos. When she hit the stage, she had the audience on their feet.

Adorable newcomer Colby Caillat announced that she’ll join John Mayer on his cruise tour. “I’ve never been on a cruise before, so I’m very excited!” She’s also thrilled to get some time off for the holidays. She plans on spending some QT with her grandparents and parents. And how does she overcome a case of the winter blues? “Go to California – where it’s sunny!”

Avril Lavigne didn’t do interviews, but she looked chipper and cute as ever bouncing up and down on stage.

fall-out-boy-copy.jpg

Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, who was dressed in a tight purple striped hoodie, admitted to journalists that anytime he’s wearing something stylish, it probably belongs to his girlfriend, Ashlee Simpson.

Menudo talks about the biggest challenge creating their album… “Being able to blend the styles together because we’re a new group and we just put together a lot of different styles.”

Ashley Tisdale didn’t make it to the press room, but she did debut her post-rhinoplasty look on stage…

Perez Hilton tells us his highlight of 2007. “Everything with Britney Spears.” And though we ask him to divulge the craziest rumor he’s ever heard about himself. Instead, he tells us something nutty about Dolly Parton. “I interviewed Dolly Parton recently for my VH1 special that airs in February. And I ask her, ‘what’s the craziest rumor you’ve ever heard about your self?’ So I said ‘Dolly, what’s the craziest rumor you’ve ever heard about yourself?’ ‘Well I heard that I had Burt Reynold’s baby and that I’m a leeeesbian.’ And I said ‘really because I heard that you, Dolly, have your entire back covered in tattoos.’ And it’s true. You’ll never see her in sleeveless or a backless gown. [And she says] ‘Oh no no… I mean I do have some pastels here and there.’ [And I say] ‘What are pastels? Oh a rainbow here or there.’ She didn’t call ‘em tattoos.”

Singer Keri Hilson who wrote Gimme More for Britney Spears tells us “I actually was summoned to write for Britney. When I write a song for someone, I write what I feel is right for that person.” And what’s it like working with Timbaland: “Working with Timbaland is definitely – it’s so inspiring. He is so energetic, and he’s eccentric really, I suppose. And experimental. All the “e’s.”

Special presenter and Gossip Girl hunk Chace Crawford appeared backstage for a few minutes. He allowed the photographers to snap some photos but neglected to do any interviews. (I guess he didn’t want any more Carrie Underwood inquiries.)

bsb_copy.jpg

“Backstreet’s Back, Alright!” Sadly the Backstreet Boys declined interviews… They had to save all their energy to performe their “classic” dance moves on stage. They did joke around and act goofy with each other for the cameras though.

Chris Noth Talks About Law & Order… and SATC!

We recently chatted with Law & Order: Criminal Intent stars Chris Noth and Alicia Witt. To our delight, we got a little surprise scoop about Sex & the City: The Movie!

chris-noth1.jpg

Q: What was it like balancing filming Law & Order and Sex & the City: The Movie?

CN: Oh, crazy! Crazy! Yeah, it’s pretty schizo. Totally antithetical subject matter, feeling. It’s completely two different sets although for a movie I think they cover an enormous amount of ground as, you know, they may not be doing eight or nine pages like we do. But they cover what they do – I mean, they cover a lot, you know. They’re going at a rapid pace. So both sets were positively exhausting in completely different ways. You got to get eight hours of sleep, especially for Law & Order. But it was, you know, it’s a romantic comedy so that it’s different in terms of timing and the use - you’re using a whole different set of instruments for it.

Q: Do you feel closer to one character (Logan or Mr. Big)?

CN: Oh, I can’t – it’s like choosing between your children or something!

Q: What do Logan and Mr. Big have in common if anything?

CN: They’re both New Yorkers, you know just different neighborhoods maybe… And, you know, I always joke – with Big I’m going from Gucci clothes to Logan’s, you know, Moe Ginsburg suits. But they’re both really great fun, great complete individuals with different points of view in different worlds. And our sets articulate that also. I mean, the set – our set on Law & Order, it’s a lot of hard work. We try to have fun, you know, together and have a lot of laughs. And you know, it’s – really it’s – I think there’s a little more testosterone. That’s why it’s a relief to have, you know, Alicia and Julianne, when she was here.

But the Sex & the City set, you know, I would say is a lot more obviously female oriented – a lot of emphasis on hair and makeup, which is always fun…

It’s great fun, and [they’re] both great characters. I’m lucky to have played two that have lasted as long as they have.

Q: Are you happy with the way the SATC script turned out?

CN: Yeah, I am very happy. I can honestly say from the writing and the way we – what we’ve shot that I’m pretty happy. I mean, it was – with the schedule and the sort of doing double duty, I was a little unsure of – if I could, you know, keep up with it.

Q: Are you pleased with the resolution for your character?

CN: It’s a continuation. I mean, I’m not sure anything needs to be resolved. They’re a part of each other’s lives, you know, through all the twists and turns, but it’s life I guess. But he’s, you know, a big part of her life.

sex-and-the-city.jpg

Q: Can you tell whether your fans are from SATC fans or Law & Order from the way they approach you?

CN: Well, all I know is in the neighborhoods of Criminal Intent, you know, some of the fans wanted me to sign their gin bottles.

Q: So what do the SATC fans want you to sign?

CN: We were mobbed in Sex & the City on the first week. I mean, every set we were on there were 500 people with their camera phones, you know. I’ve never seen anything like it and they stayed there all day long… So it was pretty interesting. We’re pretty much – I mean, Law & Order is, I think, an accepted – you know, we’re like an old friend in New York. We’ve been around a while – it’s almost like a part of New York.

AW: You could definitely tell, especially with the female fans – the ones that were into Chris because of Mr. Big. And so that was so of expected, you know. There were always girls like with googly-eyed and just completely mad about him which is adorable.

But then this one day we were shooting a scene in a car and we were following another car which had the equipment in it and stuff. So there we were in the car with, you know, we’re sort of blocking traffic a little bit… We had to do a U-turn to go back to where we started from and shoot the scene again. And there was this huge truck that was being blocked by our little caravan.

And he started honking the horns furiously and he’s this big, burly guy, you know, mid-40s truck driver. And we figured, okay he’s just pissed off that the road ahead of him is blocked and he can’t get where he needs to go.

And he kept on honking and finally we were turning in front of him and he caught Chris’s eye. And he yelled out of the window of his car, “Marry Carrie! Marry Carrie!”

CN: We thought he as going to jump out and go you f*@#!^$s have been holiding me up all day. And it was like, when are you going to marry Carrie? That’s all he wanted.

Q: So in the words of a truck driver, when are you going to marry Carrie?

CN: Oh wow. You’ll have tune into the movie to find out…

Crowned: How Can You Not Watch?

The CW is debuting a new reality series tonight called Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants. This show is pitting mother/daughter teams against one another each week with the last remaining team being “crowned” and winning a big prize.

This show is combining some of my favorite things: pageants, reality TV, and semi-famous celebrity judges (Shanna Moakler of MTV’s “The Barkers” is one!)

The show is on tonight at 9pm on the CW. Enjoy!

Catching Up With the Cast of 30 Rock

Glam had the privilege of chatting with the cast of the Emmy-award winning sitcom 30 Rock. We asked them to tell us what they loved most about working on the acclaimed series. Here’s what they told Glam exclusively…

30-rock-cast_copy.jpg

From left: Keith Powell, Lonny Ross, Katrina Bowden, Jack McBrayer, Tina Fey, Scott Adsit, Jane Krakowski, Judah Friedlander

Well this is a wonderful group of people. Our whole cast and our whole crew. Everyone gets along beautifully. A lot of these people are old friends of mine. Jack McBrayer – I’ve known for a long time. It’s a privilege to go to work – back when we were going to work. [Being the boss] has been okay. It’s been fine. There hasn’t been any nasty, dirty work to be done. – Tina Fey

To have won the Emmy on our first year, that was such a big deal!… And because we’re on strike right now, we haven’t seen each other, so it’s so fun to see our group again. We saw each other about two weeks ago when we did a live version of the show. That was an amazing night! We’ve started emailing each other quite a bit. And a lot of the time we go to Jack [McBrayer’s] house on Thursday nights to watch the new episodes… I love [my character.] She so outrageous and ridiculous and if everyone is doing something, she’s going to do it so much further and bigger than everyone else. And Tina Fey and the writers come up with such hilarious stuff. I never imagined a lot of the stuff I’ve gotten to do on TV. I’m always surprised when I see what they’re asking me to do. I love it! – Jane Krakowski

It’s fantastic. I’m blessed everyday I go to work. There’s so much energy, and they’re so funny and everyone is so down to earth and easy to talk to. And it’s just amazing. It’s so much fun. I can’t even begin to explain. Most of the time we’re all just joking around.  There’s a story I always tell about the Golden Girls. It was last season, at Kenneth’s apt. and Jack [McBrayer] is taking us around the apartment showing us actual pictures of his actual childhood that he had to bring in. And I pick up a picture of two old ladies, and I say “Oh are these your aunts or something?” And he goes “No, those are the Golden Girls.” And I had no idea who they were. We’re always just joking around with each other. – Katrina Bowden

The scripts have been so fantastic. And just the way the show has really come together – being able to perform that material is a huge honor, and we’re just really thrilled to be a part of it… I’m just reading their words. I love the different situations they put me in, and also the different dynamics that they’ve set up between me and the other characters. You know the other person is always going to win… Alec [Baldwin] is fantastic. He is such a professional. He is so skilled and so talented. I learn a lot just by sitting in scenes with him and watching the way he works. He’s a total pro, and hopefully he’ll stick around for a long, long while. – Jack McBrayer

I don’t know. Everybody is so extremely funny, and they come from an improvisation background. And I come from a Shakespeare background. And so I kind of am the guy who’s sitting there trying to be funny. It’s not always successful… To be honest with you though, it’s almost exactly the same [as Shakespeare] in terms of finding the rhythm of things. It’s strikingly similar. - Keith Powell

The best part?  It’s the people on the show: the crew, the writers… Really nice people… But it’s a collaborative effort, and there’s no attitude on set. Everyone’s cool. Tina’s the best boss I’ve ever had. She’s very approachable. You can always come to her with ideas. And working with Baldwin is great! I’m a huge fan. He’s a great guy. I love hangin’ out with him. It’s fun hangin’ out and crackin’ people up. Everyone’s got a good sense of humor. – Judah Friedlander

[I love] getting  to work with my friends from Chicago like Tina Fey and Jack McBrayer. It’s kind of like a little family reunion… Alec is great and he always has a story or an imitation. He’s always willing to contribute to make something funnier. He’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever seen in my life. – Scott Adsit

The best part is that everyone is a clown. Everyone’s really out there and the sense of humor is really skewed. Everyone brings their own personality to their role. On and off camera, everyone is great fun to work with… The cast is super down to earth. I guess maybe having watched SNL for years, [it’s amazing] that all of a sudden I’m working with Tina Fey. Her husband is super cool and her daughter, Alice, come to the set. Everyone is really close. One of the most surreal things to me is being a part of Tina Fey’s personal life. I never thought I’d see that happen. – Lonny Ross

The Hills: Like, Are They or Aren’t They?

So, the biggest news on the street today is whether or not Heidi and Spender of The Hills are still dating. Should the question maybe be, is/was the relationship ever real? One day after Lauren revealed to EW that MTV on occasion sets up certain things to happen and has the cast redo certain events so they can be on camera, it seems the appropriate time to ask, how real is the show?

 heidi_spencer1.jpg

No, this isn’t a groundbreaking question. People have always wondered just how much of Laguna Beach was real and how much was set up. But the question keeps popping up and with the amount of attention around the show, it doesn’t look like people will stop asking anytime soon.

I think, they may have liked each other at some point but now are milking it for their 15 minutes. What do YOU think? Leave a comment and let me know.

And, did you watch the season finale of The Hills? Did you like it?

Also, Lauren, our celebrity editor, shares her take here
