Back to Reality … My Take on The Bachelor

So it’s Thursday and I’ve yet to talk about the Bachelor finale. You probably know that I am/was a big fan. I really liked Jason. I thought he was a genuinely nice and cool guy. He seemed to have true intentions and real values. I shrugged off all the “blogossip” and rumors and believed that Jason would do the right thing. I tuned out “Reality Steve” and went into the last episode with hope, faith, and eager excitement. And now, I feel foolish … and I was only an avid viewer. I wasn’t the poor girl who got publicly humiliated. So, suffice to say I waited until today to write about it because … well, I needed to let the dust settle. I had to mourn one of my favorite guilty-pleasure television shows.

Here’s the thing … despite all the aforementioned gossip … I truly don’t think that it was a “pre-determined” ending as some people have inferred. I am hard-pressed to believe that ABC had a hand in writing this “real-life” love story. Call me naive, but I believe that Chris Harrison and the peeps at the network were just as disappointed with the outcome. (Hey, the ratings were sky-high before the explosive ending!) Go ahead. Call me wide-eyed, silly, the glass is half full … but that’s just my opinion.

Anyway, I’m not going rehash all the details. By now, you’ve heard it all … even if you’ve never seen a single episode of the Bachelor in your whole life. In summary, it came down to do girls: Melissa and Molly. Jason proposed to Melissa. A few weeks later, he changed his mind and decided he missed Molly and wanted her back. He publicly breaks up with Melissa and asks out Molly. Disgusting.

Here’s what I think … Jason is kind of a dork (see above pic). He’s nerdy. He’s not so cool. He’s not used to the kind of attention he got from females over the duration of the show. So now, he’s like a kid in a candy store. He can’t commit. He can’t make up his mind. One day he wants the sugary bubblegum Melissa, the next he wants the sassy sweet-and-sour Molly … It’s only a matter of time before he randomly decides Stephanie (complete with all her matching jewelry, leopard-print accessories, and fur-lined coats) is his true soul mate.

Worse than that … I feel like Molly’s reaction was really unnecessary/un-compassionate. She showed no sympathy for Melissa. I don’t even think it crossed her mind. When Jason said “Hey, I’m through with Melissa … Wanna go out?” she was like “UM! YEAH!” In the words of Kelly Ripa: “How much did you want her to say, ‘You snooze, you lose!’”

Funny enough, despite all of this, I KNOW I’ll be watching next season. It probably won’t work out. They’ll likely break up after a month, but I’ll still be rooting for the would-be couples over a gallon of mint-chocolate chip. Jillian has been named the new “Bachelorette.” I adore her. I think she’s the cutest, sweetest, most stylish girl they’ve ever had on the show. Sooooo, it looks like it’s time to be a hopeless romantic yet again. Time to embrace a hopeless couple yet again. Time to be naive .. again.
