Precious is absolutely amazing. It’s heart-wrenching and compelling; disturbing and inspiring. It’s an important movie with meaning and message. Precious is in select theaters today.

1.    Mo’Nique Should Get an Oscar. It’s the polar opposite of her over-the-top, funny, and typical roles. And she has proven herself to be an amazing actress with incredible versatility. She plays a horribly abusive and tyrannical mother. She is so convincingly deplorable and disgusting that it’s almost hard to imagine a softer side of Mo’Nique.

2.    Outstanding Performances. Mo’Nique shines, but so does Gabourney Sidibe who plays the title role of Precious. She couldn’t be more perfect. She’s subtle and tormented and beautifully portrayed.

3.    It’s a Dose of Reality. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own little day-to-day issues, and we forget there are people in the world with real problems. Precious might be a character in a film, but her story is all too real.

4.   A Down-to-Earth Mariah Carey. She takes off the makeup and tones down the glitz and glam – completely. Playing the part of a social worker, Carey shows that she really does have acting talent.

5.    A Movie With a Message. Yes, Precious is gritty, gruesome, graphic, and unrelenting. Yes, you will be reminded that humanity can be really good or really, really bad. But you’ll also leave the theater feeling inspired. Precious has been beaten down by life again and again and again, and she still manages to pick up her head and move forward. She wants to learn, change, grow, and evolve despite everything even when the world and fate set her up for failure.
