This girl has brains, edge, and talent – Alex Young talks to Glam about her awesome album, unique sound, and promising future.

When did you start performing?
I’ve been performing my whole life. I was always singing and dancing. I’ve always been involved in school dances, and performing has always been a major part of my life. It was in my blood… I love being an artist. You just feed off of it- the crowd, the energy.

What other musicians inspire you?
I grew up listening to Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Prince, Ella Fitzgerald. And my parents were major influencers to me, exposing me to what was out there as a young child.

How would you describe your sound and style?
It’s dance pop with a little bit of funk. It’s very spirited. It has a fun vibe, and it’s very danceable. This is the album you listen to when you’re walking across the park on a sunny day.

Do you get nervous before you perform?
It’s not really nerves anymore. I’m just excited and anxious to get on stage. I love performing. It’s my first love. I can’t wait.

What do you love about New York City?
I love the diversity. I love that it’s a cultural melting pot. There are differences everywhere you look. The heartbeat never stops!

Do you have a favorite place in NYC?
I’m a really big fan of Sephora. My dancer friends always make fun of me because I’m always in that store. They have everything. I love Laura Mercier.

How would you describe your fashion style?
It’s edgy and funky with a little bit of Audrey Hepburn.

What’s next for you? What’s your goal?
Performance right now is what’s on the schedule. I love the whole business of it. The goal is in the process. Having fun with it every day, living in the moment, and just enjoying it. This is my passion and this is what I choose to do. I love what i do every day.
