Jennifer Lopez is priming to flex her acting muscle. The 2,500th celebrity to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will star in a film based on Chilean miners who were notoriously trapped underground for 69 days in 2010. A Mike Medavoy production, The 33 will also feature Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen. All of a sudden, it makes sense that she may not reclaim her seat at American Idol. [MTV UK]

Drake and Miguel have a question to ask: Would You Like a Tour? If so, consider your wish granted. The pair are launching a 41-city tour that will kick off on September 25 in Portland, Oregon and end in Los Angeles two months later. Drake’s Young Money compatriot Lil’ Wayne will wrap his own America’s Most Wanted tour three weeks before Drake and company hit the road. [XXL Mag]

Kanye West wasn’t the only star to celebrate fatherhood this weekend. Channing Tatum and Kim Kardashian ex NFL star Reggie Bush both shared photos of their newborn daughters on their first Father’s Day. The White House Down star captioned his Facebook photo with “First Father’s Day with my girls!,” while the Detroit Lions running back wrote “Enjoying my first Father’s Day with my family! #blessed.” Cuteness, overload! [CNN and ET Online]

It’s official: Girl Meets World will be airing next year on Disney! The Boy Meets World spinoff will follow Riley, Cory and Topanga’s 12-year-old daughter, as she comes of age in New York City with best friend Maya. Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D star Rowan Blanchard will take on the lead role while Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel will reprise their roles from the original series. “Boy Meets World and its story of adolescent self-discovery resonated with an entire generation of tweens,” said Disney Channels Worldwide executive vice president Adam Bonnett. “In the same way audiences fell in love with Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, we look forward to introducing our viewers to their daughter, Riley Matthews… and building a memorable connection with a whole new generation of fans.” [ABC News]

Beloved R&B singer Aaliyah may have died at the promising age of 22, but her indelible impact is still felt by the music world today. In a most recent tribute to the star, Chris Brown has debuted a new video featuring her vocals and hologram. “Don’t Think They Know,” the second single from Brown’s sixth album X, alludes to gang violence in Los Angeles. Watch the clip here. [Rolling Stone]

Netflix isn’t stopping at Arrested Development. The streaming service inked its biggest deal to date with Dreamworks Animation, making it the home of new original programming based on studio franchises. That means characters from ShrekHow to Train Your Dragon, and Madagascar could be a click away—literally. [The Hollywood Reporter]

First-time director Marya Cohn and VariEnt Pictures representative Gina Resnick are hoping that Kickstarter can bring their new project to life. The pair have launched a campaign to raise money for post-produciton of an indie film starring Emily Van Camp and Michael Nyvquist. “The Girl In the Book tells the story of a young writer’s transformation when her past invades her present,” reads a statement from the project. “Forced to face difficult memories and make bold decisions, she ultimately overcomes her demons, allowing her to find love and rediscover her creative voice.” [GLAM Inbox]

Kim and Kanye Welcome Baby Girl in time for Father’s Day

Nineteen hours ago, reality television matriarch Kris Jenner wished Kanye West a Happy Father’s Day. Hours later, daughter Khloé Kardashian-Odom shared her sentiments, tweeting “Mommy/baby are healthy & resting. We appreciate all of the love.” With that, the world welcomed Kim Kardashian‘s bundle of joy—and Hollywood’s newest obsession.

KimYe1

Kardashian went in to labor on Saturday, and with West by her side, gave birth to a healthy baby girl at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the same facility where her nephew Mason and niece Penelope were delivered. While the child was born five weeks early, reports offer that the young Gemini was the result of a natural birth and weighed in at a little under five pounds. So far, the Kardashian-Jenner clan have remained mum on a name for their new “miracle,” (which has to start with the letter ‘K’), but at yesterday’s Daytime Emmy Awards, Jenner did offer a tease. “We’re happy, everybody’s good and she’s beautiful.” From a family of makeup entrepreneurs and budding models, this is no surprise.

For West, his young beauty’s arrival came a day before Father’s Day and puts him in headlines for something other than tomorrow’s release of his sixth album Yeezus. While we suspect he and his better half will stay out of the spotlight in the coming weeks, we’re sure the next paparazzi shots to emerge of the G.O.O.D. Music authority will feature a (rare!) smile.

Box Office Beat: Man of Steel Soars to the Top

box-office-beat-man-of-steel

There’s a reason he wears an “S” on his chest, and Kal-El proved it to Lois Lane, Metropolis, and the rest of the world by snuffing out the competition and breaking a June record. See what other movies had their eyes on the skies this weekend:

2. This Is The End $20.5M
3. Now You See Me $10.3M
4. Fast & Furious 6 $9.4M
5. The Purge $8.2M

Music Musings: Jay-Z Shares Stage with Samsung to Announce ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’

Daft Punk. Kanye West. J Cole. Just when you thought your summer soundtrack couldn’t get any better, it has.

Jay-Z | Magna Carta Holy Grail

Whether or not you tuned in to the San Antonio Spurs versus the Miami Heat during last night’s round of the NBA Finals, by now you know the biggest highlight of the game: Jay-Z has been working with Timbaland, Pharrell, and Rick Rubin on his 12th studio album. And the solo effort, Magna Carta Holy Grail, will be released on July 4th. While the multimedia magnate teased a major announcement on his Life and Times blog last week, we can’t say we saw this coming.

In a 3 minute-2 second spot with Samsung, the reigning hip-hop authority is seen in the studio with his collaborators, laying out the blueprint for what could be his biggest album to date. “It’s this duality of ‘How do you navigate your way through this whole thing—through success, through failures, through all of this—and remain yourself?” he says in the clip.

With only three weeks left until the national holiday and album drop, this is the first marketing effort from Jay-Z. It seems that he, like West and Beyoncé, are at a point in their careers where their names alone are enough to catapult respective  creative feats. Think about it: which other artist has been projected to sell 500,000 units in his album’s first week while eschewing conventional promo tactics? What singer do you know who can sell out an international world tour off the strength of a few high-profile performances and campaigns, without publicly hinting at a new single or album release? We’ll wait.

“We don’t have any rules, everyone’s trying to figure it out,” Jay-Z muses in the video. “That’s why the Internet’s like the wild west—the wild wild west. We need to write the new rules.”

That, though, is not where the great news subsides. In addition to serving the masses with new music (yes, before Queen Bey), one million owners of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy Note 2 will receive Jay-Z’s latest LP for free. Samsung has already purchased 1 million copies for $5 dollars each, and will make the project available to customers who download a special app, which drops on Google play in one week. That means Jay-Z has already made $5 million off his record and if you don’t own Samsung’s latest android device, you’ll have to wait three more day until the album is released to the public on July 7. Your move, Apple.

Weekend Watch: A ‘True Blood’ Beginning versus a ‘Nurse Jackie’ End

A war may wage at your place this weekend. That’s because two of the most anticipated television events of the season are happening on the same night at the same time: a True Blood season premiere on HBO versus a Nurse Jackie season finale on Showtime.

130614_Weekend-Watch

This Sunday at 9:00 p.m. you’ll have to decide between the return of Bon Temps’ undead or year one of Jackie’s sobriety success—so far (we’ll be seeing Edie Falco as Jackie for a new season six, so who knows what could happen?). To help you out, we’ve included (short!) episode synopses from each show’s site and clips that tease the moments we’ve all been waiting for.

True Blood | Season 6, Episode 1: Who Are You, Really?
“In the season six premiere, Bill’s bloody reincarnation ushers in a new era for vampires, faeries, and humans alike.”

Nurse Jackie | Season 5, Episode 10: Soul
“The fifth season ends with Jackie celebrating her one-year anniversary of being sober. But her joy is cut short when she fights with Frank. Later, Zoey becomes rigid around Prentiss, and Jackie takes something that doesn’t belong to her.”

Kanye West’s ‘Yeezus’ Leaks Four Days Early, Tracklist Revealed

“Yeezy season approaching.” Those are the first three words of Kanye West‘s “On Sight,” a Daft Punk collaboration that intros his anticipated LP Yeezus. Of course, we aren’t supposed to know that because the emcee’s sixth studio album doesn’t drop until June 18. That was until a leak of his sixth studio release appeared online earlier today.

Kanye West - Yeezus

Despite his heavily-guarded efforts and opting to promote the disc on his own atypical terms (66 projections across the world, moody performances sans single drops), the Internet beat West out. Word of the Yeezus leak spread like wildfire across social media sites like Twitter, with corresponding links to where the album was made available for illegal download. It’s unlikely that media-shunning West will respond to the frenzy, but based on excerpts from his New York City listening party on Monday, this album isn’t at all about commercial acclaim.

“We just wanted to make the best product possible and this is just the beginning of an entire new mentality about how to make music,” he said during the session. A Rick Rubin-induced mentality that represents his new minimalistic approach as explained to The New York TimesJon Caramanica. New music that could push his first week sales to 500,000 units—or more—according to Billboard. (In this case, even with a leaked LP).

While we choose to wait for June 18 to get our listening session with Yeezy, here’s the official tracklist from his forthcoming project:

  1. “On Sight”
  2. “Black Skinhead”
  3. “I Am a God”
  4. “New Slaves” feat. Frank Ocean
  5. “Hold My Liquor” | feat. Chief KeefJustin Vernon
  6. “I’m In It”
  7. “Blood on the Leaves”
  8. “Guilt Trip” | feat. Kid Cudi
  9. “Send It Up” | feat. King L
  10. “Bound 2”

Star Scoop: A Daring Natalie Portman, Sophia Coppola Hearts Paris Hilton, A $50 ‘World War Z’

Natalie Portman in Dare Me, Sophia Coppola Shoots Paris Hilton

Natalie Portman may be following in the dark vein of her Oscar-winning Black Swan performance, but this time, cheerleaders take center stage. The star is being eyed for a role in the film adaptation of Megan Abbott‘s novel, Dare Me, to be directed by Michael Sucsy. The story follows a high school cheerleader who attempts to regain power over her squad after the arrival of a new cheerleading coach steals her shine…all in the midst of a suicide scandal. [Deadline]

We’re not sure what her status with Kim Kardashian is, but we can say that Paris Hilton has a fan in Sophia Coppola. The Bling Ring director, who recruited Hilton to play herself in the drama, photographed the heiress (and hip-hop star?) for ELLE magazine’s July 2013 issue, where she revealed her affinity for the former reality star. “I saw the pillows adorned with [Paris'] face and I took my picture with them,” said Coppola. “She’s such a pop icon and has a sense of humor about herself. I think she was the first to really make herself into a brand. She’s so dedicated to her style.” [Stylecaster]

How much are you willing to spend for a date with Brad Pitt? Well, we can’t arrange that (and we know Angelina Jolie wouldn’t oblige), but here’s something that comes in at a close second. Paramount and Regal Entertainment are giving fans the chance to see Pitt’s World War Z two days before its release in a pair of custom Real3D glasses; you can even take Pitt home at the end of it all (in DVD form, of course). An ultimate fan package is being made available at five theaters across the country for a (mere?) $50. Who’s in?! [Entertainment Weekly]

Get well soon Ted Dwane! The Mumford & Sons bassist was hospitalized for a blood clot in his brain earlier this week, causing the Grammy-award winning band to cancel its headlining performance at Bonnaroo. “If we could’ve we would’ve, you know that about us,” the band wrote in a statement on its website. “We trust that you can respect our collective desire to encourage Ted to make a full recovery, and that this is based purely on the medical advice we have received.” Luckily for festival goers, Jack Johnson has stepped in to fill the empty slot. [Yahoo News]

Hey, Hollywood! This is how you do promo. Columbia Pictures and Sony have racked up $150 million in marketing for The Smurfs 2 prior to its July 31 release. That’s more than three times the amount promotional partners spent on the first effort, which earned $536 million at the box office; it also doesn’t hurt that a third Smurfs movie is headed your way in 2015. Columbia, feel free to give us a call if a certain Katy Perry needs a voice fill-in. [Variety]

Speaking of franchise hits, it looks like Emma Watson has conquered her next one. The Harry Potter alum has signed on to play the lead role in Queen of the Tearling, a Game of Thrones-esque adaptation of Erika Johansen‘s seven-figure book. [ELLE UK]

Ginnifer Goodman Takes on Jackie Kennedy

ginnifer-goodwin-jackie-kennedy

Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman aren’t the only leading ladies transforming their looks in the name of a biopic! Ginnifer Goodwin is taking on the role of Jackie Kennedy in National Geographic’s two-hour docudrama based on Bill O’ Reilly and Martin Dugard’s best-selling book of the same name, Killing Kennedy.

Production for the movie started earlier this week in Richmond, Virginia and images have already surfaced of the actress getting into character. Goodwin’s hair is teased into a stylish bob and paired with her pearl earrings and little black dress, we’d say that she looks the part already!

Rob Lowe is taking on the part of her on-screen husband, President John F. Kennedy while Michelle Trachtenberg will portray Kennedy’s assassin Lee Harvey Oswald’s wife, Marina Oswald Porter, her first Russian-speaking part.

Killing Kennedy will air on National Geographic in November.

Get a First Look at Naomi Watts As Diana

naomi-watts-diana-teaser-trailer

Nicole Kidman isn’t the only one emulating royalty this year, as the teaser trailer to Naomi WattsDiana was released yesterday.

While the People’s Princess seemingly lived a life filled with fame, glamour, and privilege, under the surface she was a free spirit that that struggled to live a measured life in the spotlight. The biopic itself focuses on the last two years of Diana’s life as she led a campaign against landmines throughout the world and finding love again after a very public divorce with her two children caught in the middle.

From the minute clip alone, we can already see that Watts has a lock on the beloved royal from her short tousled tresses all the way to her gentle smile that captured the world’s heart. The film is slated to hit theaters in the UK on September 20, but it won’t be long after until Diana comes to our shores.

While we wait, check out the trailer below:

Star Scoop: How Kanye West Records, Women in Film Honors Laura Linney, HBO Wants More Vice

130613_Star-Scoop

Kanye West has certainly taken an unconventional approach in marketing his sixth studio LP, Yeezus, but the paparazzi-evading emcee is still offering a glimpse into his creative world. That is, on his own terms. Today, for instance, his mutable site’s main page features a teaser of his new song “I Am a God.” In the clip, we see West recording the track with Def Jam co-founder and industry icon Rick Rubin. And dare we say the often stoic rapper manages a smile?! [Kanye West]

Actress Laura Linney and filmmaker George Lucas were the main attractions at the celebration of Women in Film’s 40th anniversary. Lucas was honored for giving women positions of power in the industry like Kathleen Kennedy, who he appointed head of Lucasfilm, while Linney took home the Crystal Award for her lifetime achievement in film. “There certainly is a wider diversity of roles available to women; careers don’t instantly end at 29 anymore,” she said during her acceptance speech. “But the progress in every other area has been so slow, very slow. So there’s a long way to go, and not just in this industry, but in every industry.” [Yahoo News]

We all have our vices. So far, premium cable channel HBO has racked up two. The network renewed Vice, an innovative magazine series covering provocative stories around the world, for a sophomore run. “Vice’s fearless, irreverent style of news coverage has produced a uniquely provocative show,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said in an interview. “We look forward to more of their groundbreaking reporting in season two.” [The Hollywood Reporter]

The Lee Hall biopic about the life and times of Sir Elton John will be coming to a theater near you. FilmDistrict is close to acquiring the U.S. rights to director Michael Gracey‘s Rocketman, which sought financing during its run at the Cannes Film Festival. [Yahoo News]

It may be one of the most recognizable songs in the world, but singing “Happy Birthday” in a commercial capacity will cost you. That’s why Good Morning to You Productions Corp. has filed a lawsuit against Warner/Chappell Music, the company that owns the rights to the song and charges a $1,500 licensing fee for its use. If producers win, Warner/Chappell Music would have to pay back millions in fees that it’s charged for commercial use of the birthday tune. [Salon]

Brazen bodies in action-packed slo-mo? We thought you’d never ask. Though the follow-up to Gerard Butler‘s 2006 blockbuster 300 has been pushed back for another year, we finally have a trailer full of hot bodies to feast our eyes on. [Entertainment Weekly]

At PETA, former pageant queens carry the crown. Miss USA winners Shanna Moakler (1995), Susie Castillo (2003), Shandi Finnessey (2004), and Alyssa Campanella (2011) are the latest personalities to pose for the organization in an anti-fur campaign. [E! Online]

Remember those books we all read in high school where we controlled how the story ended? You know—turn to page 126 to hide out from zombies in the closet or page 83 if you want to take your chances and run for it?! Well, they’re coming back in movie form. 20th Century Fox is developing a film based on the Choose Your Own Adventure series that will be a “cross-platform four-quadrant action-adventure franchise.” Whatever that means.
