Style Spotlight: The News

The News

Inside The News

I love the News. No, it’s not some hipster band you feel like you should have heard about already, nor is this my declaration of love for the smart-pants media swarm that is The New York Times, NPR, and BBC. (Although did you like how I name-dropped my favorites there?) The News I’m talking about is the New York-based fashion sales and P.R. powerhouse. In addition to boasting a super-efficient, savvy team and an incomparably cool client roster (Alexander Wang, Habitual, Cheap Monday, and Vena Cava to name a few), the spacious downtown office also happens to be one of my favorite places to visit. Mainly because I love that the “waiting area” is filled with an entertaining collection of snow globes, and that the jewelry samples are displayed in creative ways.

The necklaces hanging on the wall above a grafittied bureau are especially inspiring for those wanting to incorporate a little avant-garde decoration into their own abodes. (Or offices: After my most recent trip to The News, I started pinning up the accessories I leave at the office in case of outfit emergencies. My new Nicole Romano necklace becomes an objet d’art once placed on an austere backdrop. Get your own at Active Endeavors.)

And speaking of art: Fashion factoid filers might be interested to know that this display idea borrows from the ultimate art world doyenne, the late, great Peggy Guggenheim. The mid-century icon used to pin her collection of shoulder-grazing earrings to the bedroom wall of her Venetian mansion (now a museum). Considering the rest of her walls were filled with Picassos and Yves Tanguys, I’d say her jewels were in good company—and rightly so. x S.C.
