Attention all brainy fashion fanatics: There’s a few new publications you might want to add to your bookshelves to complete that sexy-librarian image you’ve got going on. First off, timed perfectly to coincide with the recent Christian Dior extravaganza—and the house’s 60th anniversary—comes Dior. Assouline‘s staggering 400-page tome features over 150 of the house’s most striking confections created and the celebrities who were lucky enough to wear them.
Meanwhile, for us Fourth-of-July-celebrating patriots, there’s American Fashion, another gem published by Assouline. The book catalogs our country’s storied style—not unlike one of Glam’s most recent stories—focusing on the bold-faced names and artful creations that helped catapult American designers onto the international fashion scene. Newbie designers—you know who you are—would do well to buy a copy if only to pay respect to the designers that helped pave your way.
Lastly, the fashion intelligentsia is currently trying to get their hands on contemporary artist Marilyn Minter‘s newly-printed monograph. The book, published by Gregory R. Miller & Co and distributed by art world heavy weights D.A.P., places Minter’s striking photographs and paintings on the glossiest pages imaginable. Her signature pieces—gritty, glistening close-ups of fashionable women in various stages of distress—captivate while the lesser known works (those not featured in last year’s Whitney Biennial or used in Creative Time billboards) illuminate Minter’s impressive oeuvre. The book—which is sure to be a collector’s item—isn’t available just yet, but resourceful types might be able to find a signed copy on Ebay. To tide you over until the book becomes available (hop onto Amazon, sign up and they’ll let you know when it’s in stock), keep an eye out for the new Tom Ford perfume advertisements, which Minter recently shot. x S.C.
