In this week’s WWD it was reported that Seven for All Mankind and Pucci are teaming up on a limited edition line of brilliantly colored jeans and that J.Crew and Land Cruiser recently partnered on a new car design. News of these unlikely pairings come as slight surprise but at the same time, they’re quite encouraging: After all, if Long Island staples (Seven, Land Rover) and Hamptons classics (Pucci, J.Crew) can make a harmonious marriage, than other unexpected designer mash-ups might also come to be. Here, a wish list of some such combos:

Sophia Kokosalaki + Splendid: Think of what Kokosalaki could do with all that lush jersey!

Raf Simons + Hanes: The Jil Sander designer could use his austere aesthetic to freshen up the fuss-free brand.

DSquared + Guess: The American jeans label could use a dose of the twin designer’s sex appeal. A little la dolce vita could go a long way.

Bottega Veneta + Knoll: Picture it: Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona chair in BV’s woven leather.

Miuccia Prada + Crayola: Because the artful designer has got the best sense of color in the biz. If she’s too busy Marni’s Consuelo Castiglioni could step in and whip up a box of crayons full of fall runway-inspired hues.

Christopher Kane + Johnson & Johnson: This Brit is known for his “band-aid”-style dresses, so why not capitalize on his rep by making adhesives with some style?

“Land Cruiser” isn’t a designer; they’re made by Toyota. And I’m not sure it was exactly a partnership with J.Crew. I assume you were talking about the green Icon, built by TLC, that was on a catalog cover. The CEO of J.Crew is a Cruiser nut and loves to feature them in catalogs. They have done some shoots with Land Rovers though.
Lots where I’m from, (also home to J.Crew). The FJ40 is a great, unpretentious utility vehicle. We just love when yuppie glams buy ‘em as an accessory, spend lots of money to fix the kinks, and tire of driving around in what’s practically a motorized buggy. Then we buy ‘em and wheel ‘em like they’re supposed to be driven.
