Cavalli: Made in the Shade

Roberto Cavalli is the anti-Italian. Or rather, that would seem to be his role as of late: While most of his peers are all dolce far niente during this time of year, basking in the Italian Riviera’s golden sun or catching some cat naps on the sleepier Lake Como scene, Mr. Cavalli is hard at work. In addition to putting the final touches on his two ready-to-wear collections (Cavalli and Just Cavalli), he’s been toiling away on his guest line at H&M. (The collection doesn’t hit until November, but Nitrolicious got a sneak peek.)

Cavalli (“horses” in Italian, for those who like such fashion facts) is also gearing up to open new Just Cavalli flagship on 5th Avenue: The kick-off party coincides with New York Fashion week and will feature dj Queens of Noize at the turntables.

And to cap off all his fashion and festivity planning, Cavalli just unveiled a new line of limited-edition sunglasses. The “Eva” line—named for Signora Cavalli—will hit the house’s boutiques in October, and retail for an eye-opening price of $640. The shades feature a snake-emblazoned frame and lenses in a bronze hue “reminiscent of the romantic sunsets of the southern seas and the warm Mediterranean islands,” reads the press release. Surely, this nostalgic inspiration reveals that as his schedule indicates, the designer has not set his sights on such a classic Italian scene in awhile. Take heart Signor Cavalli! This work will be over soon! As for the rest of us, we can slip on the Eva shades and enjoy la dolce vita instantly. X S.C.
