Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz with Demi Moore
It’s only the first day of New York fashion week, but you wouldn’t know by the high-wattage crowd that turned out for Van Cleef & Arpels‘ party and performance tonight. The event’s attendees featured as many bold-faced names as the first row of the Marc Jacobs‘ show—including Demi Moore, Rachel Zoe, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mischa Barton, Eve, and at least one black-clad Olsen. Once ushered inside Hammerstein Ballroom, guests enjoyed a Monte Carlo-esque spectacular which included a runway show with models accented with glittering VCA gems (and for a Parisian flourish, some led hot pink French poodles on leashes), and performance by the famed Lido dancers who flitted around with fur ruffs and sans brassiers. Up and coming band, Les Plasticines—an all-girl rock group from the City of Lights—was also on hand to entertain the well-shod audience. While the evening was chock full of fashionable festivities, the Van Cleef fete was considered by all to be the unofficial kick-off party for New York fashion week. Consider it: A Hollywood-worthy crowd swooning for a French-influenced aesthetic? It seems a fitting way start indeed.
