I came across a peculiar thing when hopping on the Milan subway this morning: A black-and-white YSL ad plastered to the floor. (Something to think about: Do YSL shoppers really take the metro?) Featuring painterly version of the house’s monogram and simply, “Manifesto 9/28/07,” the succinct announcement refers to the free “manifesto” booklets (i.e. pictures of Gisele plucked from YSL’s fall ad campaign) which the house will hand out on the street during the Milan and Paris fashion weeks. With 2 million will be printed in this “limited-edition” run, we should be able to score one whilst here in Italia. In the meantime, the New York Times is embarking on its own guerilla marketing campaign; guests at today’s Giorgio Armani show were given black backs which held the recent men’s and women’s issues of T Magazine. Less on learned? While luxe looks abound during fashion week, the eye candy comes free. Sometimes.
