Admittedly, after the YSL and Chanel spectacles, a low-key Agnes B. show can seem underwhelming. But it’s a not-to-be missed event as there’s something quintessentially French about Agnes B. Not in the Right Bank temptress Catherine Deneuve sort of way, but more along the lines of Julie Delpy’s simple bohemian style.
The designer’s clothes are more in line with the women who actually live, work, and walk around in the city’s arrondissements, as every ensemble seemed straight from the street. A red beret-clad model looked as if she was going into class at the Sorbonne, while two trench-wearing girls played the part of girlfriends going out to lunch at the corner café.
A bespectacled girl in a white polka-dot dress represented the city’s artsy femme, the cultural cuties who can be found wandering around museums like, say the Palais du Tokyo, where the Agnes B. show was held. The spring line epitomized the French woman’s fuss-free, self-assured attitude—the trademark characteristic that makes the Frenchies such an enviable lot. For those of us who wouldn’t mind trading places with a Parisian, thanks to Agnes B, we can at least duplicate their wardrobes.
