Spring’s Most Romantic Dresses
By G J DONNELLY 12.10.2007 imt
As Variety-reading speed demons already know, the top two earners at the box office this weekend were The Golden Compass and ($26.1 Million!) and Enchanted ($83.9 million total since its Nov 21st release—pas mal!). Surely the A-list actors and utopian storylines helped attract the masses, but no doubt the equally fantastical costumes worn by Amy Adams and Nicole Kidman helped pull in fans too. As Walt Disney‘s plentiful (and successful) fairytale films have shown, few can resist the allure of a dramatic, puff-ball gown—not even snooty designers. Judging by the recent runway shows, fashion’s big-names still have a thing for frothy, Cinderella-worthy frocks. (And why not? Such enchanting gowns transport its wearer to another time and place—without requiring a packed, popcorn-filled movie theater experience.) For those of you who prefer pure romance over kitschy romantic-comedies, or something fancy over controversial sci-fi’s, here’s the most fanciful dresses of the season. Surely you’ll fall hard for one:
