Last week American Eagle Outfitters announced that it was launching a children’s clothing line (as opposed to those precious adolescent-sized numbers they’ve currently got in store). The label, which is slated to launch in ’09, will be called 77kids, a moniker that, somewhat strangely calls to mind the Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe nursery rhyme.
Anyhow, the AE news surfaces an always-interesting issue of children’s clothing—specifically those that are essentially pared-down models of trendy adult styles. The results sometimes epitomize cutedom, while a few others serve as discomforting status symbols, but many are so endearing, they can bring out the inner child in even the most jaded adult. Here, a quick survey of the darling duds the fashion crowd has created for tots:
Tocca Bambini
Joie Kids

Diesel Kids (because it’s never too early to get your whisker on!)
Little Marc (Marc Jacobs)

Wrangler Diaper Cover (In a word: Amazing.)

Ralph Lauren Booties @ Bergdorf Goodman
