Pink is the New Black: Buy to Beat Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer Awareness Card

Did you know that apart from skin cancer, breast cancer has the highest rates among women in the United States? The National Cancer Institute shows that 1 in 4 females in the U.S. are diagnosed with breast cancer. Scary, huh? With the help of the doctors, chemists, survivors, and loved ones, the word is spreading like wildfire, and money is being raised for research, prevention, and treatment. The fashion industry has jumped on board as well, by releasing one pink product after another to contribute the best way they know how…by creating beautiful designs that help fund the cause. Each day in October, one of these products will be featured along with a link on where to purchase it. Buy one or buy 31. They’re great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and even wedding parties. It’s a way for you and I to both do our part to help fight a disease that’s affecting our mothers, sisters, daughters, best friends, and strangers. Let’s see what kind of difference we can all make… one fashionable step at a time. ~ Maria Denardo

Gary Graham: Dressed in a Daydream

Gary Graham

This spring collection is deliciously whimsical; the pieces have a certain airy breeze to them that look like the beautifully soft organza and chiffon has never been worked with. The modern drapery and prints are sure to make you stand out, that is if the fairy-like shapes haven’t already.  - Francine Uba

Convertible Cardi: 5 Looks in 1

5 Looks in 1

Let’s face it. Fashion can hurt. We pinch our toes in too tight heels and squeeze our bodies in a cocoon of Spanx all in the name of style. And the thing is…. we wouldn’t trade it for anything. We LOVE being girls! Sometimes we get lucky though, and a piece comes along that fuses fashion and comfort seamlessly. One such piece that you’ve got to check out is Mark’s low maintenance Knot Me Convertible Cardigan. Only $28 and too comfy for words, the versatile silhouette is designed to be worn in at least 5 different ways. You can purchase the cardi at www.MeetMark.com in rich charcoal (or brown or black) from sizes small to XX large. It’s great for layering during the fall to winter transition and mixing and matching with clothes you already own! Throw it over your favorite worn in jeans on weekend outings or a white button down shirt during the workday. Add bold chunky jewelry and a chic pair of shoes and this cardi can go from casual days to drama-filled nights. If you still need a little outfit inspiration, take a look at the downtown look below. Remember, it’s all about the accessories. ~ Maria Denardo

Lancôme and Marc: A Mere Coincidence?

Lancome Juicy Tube

Designer extraordinaire Marc Jacobs has accidentally teamed up with French cosmetic company Lancôme Paris for a sexy lip gloss-tee combo you’re gonna love. Lancôme is offering the lip gloss (obvi) which is decked out in thigh-high fishnet packaging and topped off with a little gold cap. The super cute gloss is called Juicy Tubes Rose Fishnets, and it’s available in a one shade fits all rosy-nude with a slight gold shimmer. The company made it exclusively for Sephora for $18. Believe me, you’ll get your money’s worth. Keep one handy in every purse for a glossy shine that will capture the spirit of romantic nights in Paris no matter where you are.

Marc Jacobs tee

Does Marc Jacobs ever get it wrong? (Hardly!) And this is no exception. His Marc by Marc Jacobs Cotton Fishnet Tee is a great addition to any wardrobe and just so happens to perfectly match Lancôme’s lip gloss. Bravo, MJ. This jersey knit will look fabulous tucked into a high-waisted black pencil skirt for a ladylike ensemble that’s so fall 2008. It would also be a nice layering piece for cooler days like today. Grab your hottest pair of heels and Lancôme Paris Juicy Tubes Rose Fishnets and you’ve got a chic winning look. Au revoir… ~ Maria Denardo

Get Ahead : There’s one for every girl

beanies

It’s not winter yet, but you can never be too prepared for the season to come. Be ahead of the game and go and get yourself one of the seasons must haves: A Beanie. Slouchy, knitted, trinkets and bobbles- whatever you have a hankering for- beanie hats will not only keep you warm and snug but you’ll look adorable too. If looking cute is not really your aesthetic ( a category I definitely don’t fall into) then beanies work just as well to toughen up the most girly of outfits and give you that cozy edgy look Urban Outfitters do all kinds from girly to grunge.

Front Row Fashionistas

joy bryant

I know, I know New York fashion week is over, and all the other cities are now enjoying the fashion elite and celebrity fans in the front rows of their favorite designer’s shows, but let’s take a look back and round up those celebrity admirers that were seen at practically every show (and no doubt the after parties). Joy Bryant was a regular attending numerous shows from Michael Kors to Hervé Légér to Zac Posen to Marchesa and all though there’s no questioning she was there for her fashion fix ,but she like us, had a little bit of a job to do blogging fashion week coverage for STARWORKS. Zoe Saldana also made several rounds from Diane Von Furstenberg to Phillip Lim. Other celebrities that appeared to not sleep for a full week of fashion were: Society girl- Tinsley Mortimer, Nigel Barker, Leigh Lezark of the Misshapes ( a personal favorite), a little unsurprisingly- with his stint at Vogue- Sean Avery and last but by no means least, (in fact my guess is she attended the most shows) is Leighton Meester;we even caught up with the lovely gossip girl starlet at Jason Wu.There were several other stars making the rounds but these were definitely part of the fashion devoted. Let’s see if they make as many appearances in the front rows of London, Paris and Milan.-Francine Uba

Accessory Spotlight: ONE OCTOBER

ONE OCTOBER clutch

What do celebrities like Lauren Conrad, Jennifer Aniston, Shannen Doherty, and Amy Lee have in common? They’re all fans of ONE OCTOBER, a new accessory and handbag company based out of Malibu, California. The up-and-coming line applies a fresh take on classic shapes. Roxana Zal and Naomi Stokeld, the designers of the brand, integrate cast off salmon skin from fish farms to create environmentally conscious pieces. Their goal: to produce a style that is timeless and edgy at the same time. The line starts at $77 with skinny salmon wrap bracelets (just right for layering!) and caps out at about $450 for the largest clutches. FYI: Patent leather against salmon is a gorgeous contrast. Just take a look at the rich burgundy handbag above. I’m craving it already. Most of the stores are located in California so if you’re in the area head to www.oneoctober.net for listings. You can also find some of their merchandise on www.bleuclothing.com. Remember, a change of season means a change of accessories. Then again, we’ll always find a reason to shop, won’t we?-Maria Denardo

Erin Wasson x for RVCA

ern-wasson.JPG

I know I’ve written with a little distaste about celebrities and clothing lines in previous articles….but models and clothing lines are an entirely different story. Although certain models have reached or transitioned into celebrity heights their more humble beginnings were wearing and walking in fabulous clothes for a living. Erin Wasson, celebrity but more notably, model, has joined Kate Moss with a (I predict) soon to be successful clothing line and collaboration with RVCA. If you didn’t know, now you do, no Glam girl should go without her 16-piece capsule collection this spring (and Elizabeth and James- but that’s another article!) There are seriously no excuses, because everything from her cut tanks, jumpsuits, blazers, sheer tops, shredded denim jeans and teeny weeny black dresses and skirts are completely affordable, ranging from $55-$230. What’s even better is that she has a 3 year contract with RVCA, so there’s going to be even more where that came from.

Dear Erin, I love you, thanks for clothing me this season because you’re pretty much all I’ll be wearing x- Francine Uba

Walk in your favorite celebrity’s shoes.

stuart-weitzman-shoes.JPG

It’s not a new thing, celebrity collaborations with designers or stores, actually I was getting kind of tired of everyone trying their had at designing- and coming out with their own lines( bar Gwen and the few others.) However I always have an interest in celebrity/designer/charity combos and Stuart Weitzman is no different. In fact Stuart Weitzman’s current collaborations are my favorite, not merely because he’s auctioning off shoes (yes, I am a that girl that is obsessed with shoes), but they are beautiful, beautiful shoes no less, and more importantly the cause isn’t to fill out my already bursting shoe closet; but the far worthier Ovarian Cancer Fund. He has an array of celebrities designing their own Stuart Weitzman original stiletto for a very special cause, that needs as much awareness as he, and the vast celebrities in partnership, are garnering. Ashlee Simpson, Kristen Bell, Leighton Meester, Rachel Bilson and Joy Bryant are only a few of the slew of celebrities turned fashionistas to produce their own individual shoe; that can be bid for and bought by you. These celebrity’s not only display their artistic skills but their distinct personalities with their creative footwear and my personal favorite’s Zooey Deschanel’s “Rose Petals” creation is at a starting bid of $200.00: these shoes on wheels are not very functional (neither are the majority of the shoes in my closet) but they have me wanting more of what Miss Deschanel has to offer. I’m not saying give up the day job but I have a feeling she’ll be joining Gwen and the few in the near future. Check out Stuart Weitzman Online, for Zooey and other celebrity shoes for the Ovarian Cancer Fund.
