“In France, you don’t just make dresses or pants or one thing. You think about the woman.” ~ Sophie Théallet
If you’re looking for a new-ish designer to help reinvent a tired look or just tweak your usual fave, look no further. Her name is Sophie Théallet. I adore her and the splendid boho-fabulous designs she creates. When I say “boho-fabulous,” I’m not talking about head scarves and beads. She comes from an old world mindset. I’m referring to luxurious fabrics, playful ruffles, and sophisticated draping. Théallet stands out with a sort of vintage Hollywood glamour in a time when so many stylish women dress everything down. Born on the coast in the south of France, she naturally exudes French chic from head to toe. Jean Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaia are two greats this promising designer worked with to hone her craft for couture. Clothes that are exceptionally fashion trendy and overly sexy are not what she’s all about. On September 8th during New York Fashion Week, you can expect to see ultra-feminine pieces with a subtle hint of sensuality glide down the runway. Théallet’s collections center around a woman who she describes as “intelligent, well aware of what’s going on in the fashion world and wanting to feel beautiful and strong, not overly sexy, but with a little je ne sais quoi.” Who wouldn’t want to be that woman? ~ Maria Denardo
