Charlotte Ronson: The (New) Preppy Posh

Charlotte Ronson

Forget about Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson sitting front row for Charlotte’s show Saturday morning, (although I still can’t contain my excitement that I saw them, but that can be our little secret!) it was all about the amazing chic, school-girl-esque spring 2009 collection. The colors were girly, the materials draped and the ruffles were inspiring. The collection was hip and it was fun, with t-shirt dresses, cut-out sweaters, layers upon layers, pouchy pockets and denim jumpers. The atmosphere made me smile. It made me want to get up and dance and it actually made me want to watch a cute romantic comedy in the rain. The clothes were light, they were pretty, they were fresh and are perfect for the months where April showers bring May flowers.

As the models graced the catwalk with their messy ponytails and a dark, feminine glow, I couldn’t help but think of a cutesy school-girl, feeling oh so adorable in these amazing clothes. With the iconic Gossip Girl, the way high school teenagers dress for class has transformed over the years, much different than what I would have picked out to wear for school. If I had been wearing pieces like what I saw in C. Ronson’s collection, waking up in the morning would have been that much easier. I’ve come to a conclusion, her collection is the new and improved “prep” look of 2009.

So for now, I’ll listen to my new favorite song thanks to Mark Ronson, (The Pipettes, “Because It’s Not Love”) and think of that runway show, anxiously anticipating the arrival of spring! – Erin Dustin
