Cynthia Rowley’s spring 2009 show was like time traveling right into spring. The space was trendy and the atmosphere was hip. The bleachers were a bit of a challenge, I was a little afraid of a second Fashion Week fall (don’t ask), but otherwise, the show was right on schedule. (no pun intended) The spotlights flashed, the catwalk came alive and the show began. The mature collection was bold and Japanese-esque with kimono-like frocks. The models wore over-sized sunglasses, sported red lips and black ensembles throughout the presentation. There were knee-length skirts with pockets, sheer tops, bright-color patterns, slicked-back hair, varied layers and a conservative, business casual-like feel. It was an intense springtime look, but a sophisticated and modern one as well. With a quick appearance by Rowley at the end, there was no second look at the models, but I’m pretty sure the statement had already been made.
After the show, I was able to chat it up with actress Julia Stiles. Here’s the lowdown:
Yes, she was wearing Cynthia Rowley, she loves the designer because of her gorgeous dresses, her favorite look of the collection – all the belts, and take a wild guess, does she or does she not style herself? The answer is a big fat YES! Way to go Jules! – Erin Dustin
