Cynthia Steffe: Lovely lady in Leather

There aren’t many designers that could trick me into wearing florals. What is it about printed petals on dresses, skirts, and blouses that entice people? Despite it being a universal trend, I still feel feel like a 5th grader in anything rose, tulip, or orchid printed. But Cynthia Steffe has the perfect solution for this problem; florals trimmed with leather! What better way to add an edge to something so girly as silk-florals than grungy leather. The 2009 spring/summer show began with ruffled floral dresses in blues and reds, but to my delight, progressed with the addition of black patent leather belts, leather gloves and dark glasses which looked amazing against the siren-red lips.

A patent leather belt adds a little spunk to this silk, floral number and creates a perfect cinched waist.

As the show progressed, Steffe moved further into the grunge territory, adding a full leather, high-waist skirt to complete a simple white tank with blue flower print. Less than halfway through the show, I was completely mesmerized by the models confidently strutting down the runway to Suede’s “Here Come the Beautiful Ones,” in their perfect mix of girly florals and edgy leather. Cheers to the most successful ‘good girl gone bad’ combination I’ve seen in months!- Nadeska Alexis
