The Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti team sure know how to set the ambiance for a show. Set in a huge loft space on the ground-level of one of Chelsea’s new high-end properties, no detail was left unattended. The lights were dimmed, cocktails and delicious hors d’oeuvre were served (seared tuna and caviar!) When the show finally began, the melodic calypso/reggae themed music put the final touches on the relaxed atmosphere… and then the clothing left me breathless.
The Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti Spring 2009 collection, clearly influenced by early European romantic garb, namely German―think little Heidi living in the hills―had no shortage of khaki, olive greens, and gold gladiator-inspired drapings and accessories. Tiny tunics were tucked into pleated skirts cinched at the waist, and dresses were adorned with paisley print and detailed embroidery. Before I could get too attached to these, the fabric morphed into light, breezy, flowing Grecian-inspired frocks in bright blues and whites, perfect for an outing on the Mediterranean.
When the music stopped, the models ceased to walk and the lighting signaled that the show was finally over. I felt an emptiness (not so often experienced) out of a love for the clothing. I wanted more, more, more.- Nadeska Alexis
