A Few Minutes with André Leon Talley

André Leon Talley

At Tracy Reese Spring 2009, I had the pleasure to speak with Vogue Editor at Large André Leon Talley. I was super nervous walking up to him… I mean, I’ve been reading his articles since I was an awkward kid in braces and patchwork vests. (Take a minute to soak that one in!) To think this whole time I’ve only ever known him on paper, and then there he was sitting in his dapper looking suit. So sweet and humble; he was not what I expected but much, much more. Just before the show, here’s what he had to say.

GlamChic: What are your thoughts on Tracy Reese?

André Leon Talley: I love Tracy Reese. I always think that if Valentino had a daughter, a fashion daughter, it would be Tracy Reese.

GlamChic: Who do you think is the new up-and-coming designer?

André Leon Talley: Um…Yigal Azrouël. I like his work a lot.

GlamChic: What’s the one thing you can’t live without during New York Fashion Week?

André Leon Talley: Oh, I can’t live without my friends, my daily conversations on the telephone before my day begins with my friend, Diane von Furstenberg. We speak every morning and every night at the end of each day. You can’t get through this without the help of friends.

With that said, the lights dimmed and the show began. ~ Maria Denardo
