For F/W 2009 Yves Saint Laurent’s Stefano Pilati presented us with a serious collection that brilliantly fused functional classics  with edgier streetwear. Tailored leather blazers were paired with the infamous Le Smoking while the traditional white button-down was revamped and worn with high-waisted leather pants. The contrast worked without a hitch and was especially successful in the pinstripe boyfriend blazer and charcoal jumpsuits; both multi-faceted designs can be worn at a hip dive downtown or to a meeting with clients at an upscale venue. No matter what function you have in mind, err on the side of YSL. One can never go wrong with élégance française.
