French/Tunisian designer Max Azria, the fabulous mind behind BCBGMaxAzria, certainly knows style. Favored by celebrities and editors alike, Azria is as charming as he is creative. He is certainly no stranger to fashion weeks—he’d been designing (in Paris and LA) for nearly 20 years before launching the BCBGMaxAzria line, which is named for the French phrase “bon chic, bon genre,” or “good style, good class.” This season he will do three runway shows and am encore for Fashion’s Night Out. Glam got the inside scoop from the designer himself on what he considers good style and class. ~Nola Weinstein

What’s inspiring you now?
I’m always inspired by the carefree spirit of youth; I love anything new, innovative and a little avant-garde. 


What trends are you loving for Spring 2010? What trends are you hating?
I don’t really follow ‘trends’ – I create them.

What are the sure signs it’s New York Fashion Week?
When my wife leaves the house with wet hair, we all know its Fashion Week.

What’s your favorite restaurant in New York? What’s the best dish on the menu there?
I love the Buddha Bar – It’s always on my NY agenda. 


What are your cheap thrills?
The one thing I can’t live without is the sugar-free gummy bears from Duane Reade. 


What are your guilty pleasures?
Cappuccino. Any time of day or night.

What cartoon character do you most identify with?
I think I’m a little bit of Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory – he’s a smart guy who thinks outside the box.

How do you maintain your health and energy throughout the stressful fashion season?
I try not to stress too much, spend time with my family, and get plenty of massages.
