It’s clear that Stuart Weitzman takes his ping pong very seriously. Just over two weeks ago the shoe designer challenged Fashion’s Night Out shoppers to a match, and Tuesday evening he picked up the paddle again. Weitzman hosted the first annual Serve to Save ping pong tournament in support of Ovarian Cancer Research at SPiN ping pong club in New York. As the games got under way, less coordinated types took to the bar for cocktails, sliders, grilled cheese and truffled popcorn, while the players brought the magnanimous intimidation. Actress Joy Bryant warmed up with Fabiola Beracasa before starting her practice round with Weitzman; Bryant then took on writer Derek Blasberg in a match/dance off. In the end few cared who won or lost as all proceeds from the event will benefit Dr. Marsha Moses’ research in ovarian cancer at the Folkman Research Institute. Now that’s a solid match point!
