Inside the Obama’s Maiden State Dinner; the First Lady Wears Naeem Khan

Michelle Obama sparkled at the White House Tuesday evening as she and President Obama hosted their first State Dinner. The First Lady was dazzling in a one-of-a-kind sterling silver sequin floral nude strapless gown custom made by Naeem Khan; she accessorized with statement Bochic rose cut, amber, and tourmaline pear shaped earrings.  It was an apt choice considering the evening honored Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Mrs. Gursharan Kaur.

Michelle’s fashion choice coordinated perfectly with the tent’s decor, which was inspired by the colors in the peacock of India. Rich jewel tones, green, fuchsia and purples dominated, with ivy covered chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. We’ve seen many fabulous parties in our time, but never expected a White House dinner to be quite this chic. The First Couple greeted guests like Steven Spielberg, David Geffen, Katie Couric, Gayle King and hundreds of other Washington, Hollywood and Bollywood bigwigs.  Jennifer Hudson sang for the crowd and Obama toasted to “the future that beckons us all.” We’ll raise our glass to that!
