Beyonce Shuts Down the Super Bowl Half Time Show in Rubin Singer

There is no question that Beyoncé shut down the Super Bowl XLVI Half Time Show!

The tour de force took to the stage in a black leather costume designed by New York-based designer Rubin Singer, who shared a sketch of his design below. Inspired by valkyries, Norse mythological female figures of power in focus in the midst of battle, along with Marlene Dietrich and Helmut Newton, the costume resembled battle armor in the form of a body suit trimmed in Chantilly lace, strips of python, paneled iguana, and pick-stitched leather paired with a cropped motorcycle jacket, wrap skirt, a pair of Pretty Polly Secret Socks, and Proenza Schouler booties. On top of the intricate ensemble, Singer also outfitted Michelle Williams and the 120 backup dancers with jackets for the highly-publicized performance.

Singer wanted to ensure a couture look that was functional for everyone involved. “This piece is truly couture in every way,” he explained. “We had to make the body suit have a tremendous range of motion and flexibility. Beyoncé is such a fierce and intense performer we could not have the outfit constrict her in any way.” We’re glad it didn’t!
