Our latest Cannes fashion obsession comes courtesy of Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore, who both walked the red-carpet at the celebrated International Film Festival in dresses with strapless fitted tops and full lantern-style skirts. Kidman’s midi-length frock featured embroidered floral sequins and bright patterns, while Moore went for a more simplistic color-blocked style by with a black top and lilac bottom. Both dresses, designed by Dior, were built off of the classic 1950s silhouette but offered modern appeal with a more structured full-bodied skirt and skin showing top. For a more practical take on Kidman and Moore’s ensembles, go with a shorter bubble skirt that can be comfortably worn on an evening out. While we love their ankle grazing gowns, few of us can conveniently wear such a dressed up style. And of course, make sure to pick up a more comfortable pair of shoes than the strappy silver platforms Moore chose.

Toned-down makeup, a pulled back ‘do, neutral heels, and a simple forearm bracelet completed the look, allowing her natural beauty to steal the spotlight. Yahoo! bought Tumblr for $1.1 billion, and though Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Meyer promised not to “screw it up,” Fashionista raises a valid point: how will this effect Tumblr’s thriving fashion community? [Fashionista]
Italian Vogue editor Anna Piaggi died last August leaving behind racks on racks on racks of clothing. 40 rolling racks, to be precise, covering every wall in her Milan apartment. The wardrobe is so vast that her brother, who inherited everything when she died of a heart attack, isn’t sure what to do with it. So for now, it sits in storage. [Wall Street Journal]
Christy Brinkley is back in a swimsuit after 30 years, her fourth divorce and a $500,000 tax lien back in 2011, for the Hamptons-based magazine Social Life. She looks as amazing now as she did on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition back in the 70s! [StyleCaster]

Beyonce banned photographers from taking her picture during the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, granting only access to Frank Micelotta. Of course, as it turns out, Bey has a good reason. Concert-goers will leave the show with a book of looks from the Mrs. Carter Show World Tour styled by Ty Hunter. She was photographed in pieces from designers like Kenzo, Julien MacDonald, Amato Couture and Roberto Cavalli. One of the standout looks has to be the multi-layer, laser-cut couture gown that Dubai fashion designer Rami Al Ali created.
With the consistently well-planned aspects of her offerings to fans, Beyonce is showing us why exactly she is a grown woman while back on tour. If you’re luckiy enough to see Queen Bey in concert, make sure to pick up The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour Book to see all of the great costumes!

We certainly don’t have to worry about Miss Piggy remaining relevant with younger generations. She and the rest of The Muppets have teamed up with Tommy Hilfiger to launch a children’s wear collection of t-shirts and jumpers, according to Vogue UK.
The puppets are featured wearing the spring/summer 2013 collection, geared toward children between six months and 16 years old. Miss Piggy is dressed in a striped knee-length dress, of course.
“Moi adores working with Tommy on the Muppets collection,” Miss Piggy said. “Not only is he talented, elegant and gracious but he does all the work. All moi has to do is tell him what I think about the designs and Tommy takes care of all of it! Isn’t that fabulous?”
Yes, Miss Piggy, it is fabulous. Oh, and in case you were wondering, Miss Piggy said “Kermie also loves working with Tommy.”
Surprising pairing but we’re into it.

Designer: Raf Simons‘ Cruise collection for Christian Dior
Inspiration: The sleek and innovative collection took inspiration from the trends of the United States’ historical automotive boom. Like the style of a high-end vehicle, each piece was dynamic and innovative while still maintaining a level of elegance and luxury.
Trends: Brightly embellished structured crop-tops, sculpted silhouettes, printed double-breasted coats, sheer frocks decorated with jagged floral graphics and thick stripes, loose silk trousers, skin showing lace overlay, cascading calf-length half-zip blouses, elegant dresses with asymmetrical hemlines and flowing skirts
Palette: Color-blocked primary hues, black, metallic gunmetal, sheer ivory, Cadillac pink
Who Should Wear It: Classy stylistas whose fashion sense has a modern twist-Marion Cotillard, Ginnifer Goodwin
Who Was There: Stars who flocked to Monaco for the show included Jessica Biel, Liv Tyler, and Marion Cotillard

Christian Dior cruised into Monte Carlo to show its resort 2014 collection, inspired by ‘50s automotives, resulting in a very retro-futuristic collection with tons of asymmetrical zipper details, crop tops, sheer layers worn with high waisted, er, bloomers. But the real star of the show was Princess Charlene of Monaco who was allowed to wear a dress just minutes after it appeared on the runway. [The Cut]
New details have been released about the way LVMH acquired Hermes, and it wasn’t as “unexpectedly” as Bernard Arnault claims. A French newspaper leaked the deets from a 115-page criminal investigative report—turns out LVMH began building its stake in Hermes way back in 2001 through subsidiaries. The two luxury houses are now in the middle of a legal battle to get the issue resolved. This could get messy… [Fashionista]
Speaking of messy, bandits struck the Cannes Film Festival again, stealing all of the luggage out of the apartment China Film Groupe vice president Zhang Qiang was renting earlier this week. Last week, almost $1 million dollars in Chopard jewelry was stolen from a hotel room safe during the film festival. Qiang Tweeted about his frustrations saying, “This film festival is not worth mentioning!” Ouch. [The Hollywood Reporter]
Co-founder and CEO of Moda Operandi, Àslaug Magnùsdòttir left the company after, what the New York Post is reporting, she has a disagreement with her co-founder Lauren Santo Domingo. The two started the company in 2010 and Santo Domingo was able to leverage connections to Vogue as a contributing editor. This is where the problems started allegedly. Sources say Santo-Domingo wasn’t very active in the day-to-day proceedings of the site. [The Business of Fashion]

It seems that Rich Soil, a clothing company run by the Khloe and Lamar is selling shirt with an image that bears an extreme likeness to the Department of Agriculture of New York State’s logo. I’m a stylist and my styling mantra is this: never pay retail. And why should you when you can get today’s trends using yesterday’s wardrobe aka past season fashions. Shopping last season’s goodies is no longer considered passé, it’s considered smart.
Still don’t believe me? Watch me as I style this season’s ruffle trend using past season designer items I found on TheOutnet.com.
For Spring 2013 ruffles have lost their little girl look and have traded them in for an amped up edgy aesthetic. Whether you are into a classic look, a youthful neon vibe, or an avant-garde monochromatic style – there is a ruffle (for less) out there with your name on it.
Look #1: Balenciaga Spring 2013
