Designer extraordinaire Marc Jacobs has accidentally teamed up with French cosmetic company Lancôme Paris for a sexy lip gloss-tee combo you’re gonna love. Lancôme is offering the lip gloss (obvi) which is decked out in thigh-high fishnet packaging and topped off with a little gold cap. The super cute gloss is called Juicy Tubes Rose Fishnets, and it’s available in a one shade fits all rosy-nude with a slight gold shimmer. The company made it exclusively for Sephora for $18. Believe me, you’ll get your money’s worth. Keep one handy in every purse for a glossy shine that will capture the spirit of romantic nights in Paris no matter where you are.

Does Marc Jacobs ever get it wrong? (Hardly!) And this is no exception. His Marc by Marc Jacobs Cotton Fishnet Tee is a great addition to any wardrobe and just so happens to perfectly match Lancôme’s lip gloss. Bravo, MJ. This jersey knit will look fabulous tucked into a high-waisted black pencil skirt for a ladylike ensemble that’s so fall 2008. It would also be a nice layering piece for cooler days like today. Grab your hottest pair of heels and Lancôme Paris Juicy Tubes Rose Fishnets and you’ve got a chic winning look. Au revoir… ~ Maria Denardo

It takes a certain savvy to parlay great style into fashion and fêtes, and Cynthia Rowley has that aesthetic X-factor in abundance. Known for both her playful sense of fashion and fuss-free approach to entertaining (see The Swell Girl’s Guide to… series for proof) the designer recently hosted a presentation of her 2008 resort collection at her not-so-shabby-and-100%-chic West Village abode. While the word “presentation” might evoke images of PowerPoint slides, laser pointers, and high school science class (gasp), Rowley’s display was nothing of the sort.
After entering Rowley’s first floor flat, I descended down a narrow flight of stairs and entered into a sun-soaked ground floor kitchen. While waiters whisked by with fruit-kebabs and rows of champagne, the “presentation” took place in the designer’s dreamy courtyard garden. Twelve models—each draped in Rowley’s kittenish resort wear— lounged around the outdoor lap pool.

Cynthia Rowley Resort 2008
Some stood, hunched in floral jumpsuits and loose black pencil dresses, while others leaned on one another (à la the enchanting sisters in the Virgin Suicides) in branch-patterned outfits and bold beaded necklaces. All sported Rowley’s crocheted white espadrilles (“They’re comfortable!” one said). Though the color palate remained simple (mostly white, black, and grey) the collection seemed ideal for balmy weather—and perfect for the design-focused hostess like Rowley herself.—Alexandra Goldstein

Click to watch
Ok. Maybe it’s because my computer’s streaming video capabilities aren’t quite up to par, or maybe it’s because my comprehensive skills aren’t fully up and running, but I can’t wrap my head around this video clip. A fashion friend raved about it yesterday but I’m not sure exactly what’s going on: Could this really be the legendary long-locked Steven Meisel in his early, pre-genius years? If so, where can one find images from that lost Gem and the Holograms shoot? Or, alternately, did some die-hard sartorialist really wake up one day and say “Hey! I know what I can do with that new eyeliner and my mountains of American Apparel! I’m gonna make a Meisel mockumentary!” Speaking of waking up, be sure to watch the eye-opener yourself and keep me posted on your take.

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, as pictured in Vogue
Most months, its Vogue’s innovative and influential fashion spreads that turn heads. In April’s shape issue however, the magazine’s sophisticated body-issue stories carry more weight. (Yes, pun intended. And there’s more.)
Sandwiched between a “You Are Not What You Eat” story and a weight-training trend piece, there’s an unexpected story about the exercising adventures of Laura and Kate Mulleavy, the sisters behind the inimitable Rodarte line. What was surprising about the piece was not the duo’s svelte “after” photo, but the premise that editors had suggested such a pedestrian, personal endeavor to these revered designers. Doing so seemed a bit like telling Lagerfeld he’d be able to read more easily without the dark shades, or asking Cavalli to lay off the cigars…and the vodka…and the 5 A.M. bedtimes: Of course it’s only natural to make some maternal, well-meaning observations but as Emily Post would certainly agree, the majority of those are best surfaced outside the professional arena.
However, it took just two minutes of reading the sisters’ dieting diary to unwrinkle my nose and unfurrow my brow. When viewed through the Mulleavy sisters’ dreamy eyes, even the mundane can be magical: Hoofing it around the block to burn calories is an opportunity to create fairy tales about anonymous houses. Time on the treadmill becomes a quest for music with spirit and kick. A holiday gingerbread bake-off isn’t a test of the dieting wills but a place to flaunt their ceaseless creativity. And that’s not the half of it. So pick up an issue today if you can–to read at the gym or more stylish locales. A rare gem on today’s tarnished newsstand, the story serves as an inspiration not on dieting or how to dress, but on how to live ones life with class and élan.

Stella McCartney Fall 2008
Stella McCartney is a girl’s girl. While many of her peers have whipped up sharp silhouettes and unusually dramatic separates, the British designer unveiled a collection of approachable, flattering clothes. That’s not to say her styles aren’t in keeping with the season’s trends; on the contrary, her boxy oversize coats and vaguely medieval gowns fit right in with the direction of the season. But McCartney differs in that her lofty goal is not to change the course of fashion but to change the life of those who wear her clothing by offering them stress-free separates and eco-conscious accessories. And to that we say encore!

Like the Eiffel Tower and Laduree’s pastel macaroons, carousels have long served as most endearing symbols of picturesque Paris. It made sense then, that Karl Lagerfeld would opt for a merry-go-round as the focal point for today’s Chanel show, as for many, the house embodies the French fashion’s joie de vie.

For fall, Lagerfeld circled around the label’s most familiar motifs—tweedy suits, hearty embellishments, piles of lace and a few froufy bows—but much to the dismay of the 2.5-toting crowd, nary a handbag surfaced on the runway. Now at the tail end of the various fashion weeks, there’s been more than a few declarations made in industry circles that accessories are on their way out, and sculptural, challenging silhouettes have arrived to take their place. That Chanel—the house that invented It-bags long before the starlets who now sport them were even born—shares in this anti-trend is telling indeed. So accessory fiends, be patient: As Chanel’s carousel reminds us, what goes around comes around—uber-clutches, totes, and bags will be back again soon, maybe even next season.

This week, the Central Martins students shuffled back to class after skipping out to see the London shows, and news of the Milan festivities slowly started trickling in. As in many previous seasons, the most interesting things happened off the runway–or rather around it. For instance, Cathy Horyn got kicked out of the Armani show, and told the world—in her inscrutable, matter-of-fact way—all about it. Betcha G.A. didn’t foresee that one!
Horyn herself may want to be on watch, as Elle’s Fashion-Know-It-All Anne Slowey has officially entered the blogosphere with her high-octane prose. New York Magazine, Fashionista, and even the Gray Lady herself, all welcomed Slowey (and her ass) with open arms. Judging by their praise, coming across a witty fashion editor is as rare and wondrous experience as stumbling upon a Balenciaga sample sale.
Those not engrossed in Slowey’s derriere had the opportunity to gaze at Lindsay Lohan’s, as New York Magazine played match-maker with both photographer Bert Stern and Lohan’s Marilyn Monroe-philia.
Many scoffed at the comparison, but fashion elite barely took notice. They were too busy gossiping over the fact that in the same publication, Carine Roitfeld compared her US counterpart to a puppet.
Meanwhile Miss Wintour was on hand in Milan to help The Costume Institute’s Harold Koda give journalists a sneek peak at the upcoming Superheroes exhibition. Observers were impressed with the creativity of the curation, but shocked that Wintour would wear the same Prada dress three times.
Speaking of Prada, Muiccia got her lace on which everyone seemed to unanimously–yet again–approve of. Even before getting their hands on the real deal, E-editors got crafty with the lacey little numbers, which is understandable as Photoshop is fun–even more than fashion.
