Brooke Shields

Tomorrow is the day that all you Lipstick Jungle fans have been waiting for, the season premiere after a much-too-long summer break! If you’re itching at the bone, don’t fret, to hold you over for another 24 hours, I have a bit of a sneak peek of Brooke Shields on set in Brooklyn today in-between takes. Mirroring one of the many fashionista moments her character, Wendy Healy, will surely grace us with this season, Shields is carrying a Donna Karan Modern Aries bag. Gorgeous! - Erin Dustin

Walk in your favorite celebrity’s shoes.

stuart-weitzman-shoes.JPG

It’s not a new thing, celebrity collaborations with designers or stores, actually I was getting kind of tired of everyone trying their had at designing- and coming out with their own lines( bar Gwen and the few others.) However I always have an interest in celebrity/designer/charity combos and Stuart Weitzman is no different. In fact Stuart Weitzman’s current collaborations are my favorite, not merely because he’s auctioning off shoes (yes, I am a that girl that is obsessed with shoes), but they are beautiful, beautiful shoes no less, and more importantly the cause isn’t to fill out my already bursting shoe closet; but the far worthier Ovarian Cancer Fund. He has an array of celebrities designing their own Stuart Weitzman original stiletto for a very special cause, that needs as much awareness as he, and the vast celebrities in partnership, are garnering. Ashlee Simpson, Kristen Bell, Leighton Meester, Rachel Bilson and Joy Bryant are only a few of the slew of celebrities turned fashionistas to produce their own individual shoe; that can be bid for and bought by you. These celebrity’s not only display their artistic skills but their distinct personalities with their creative footwear and my personal favorite’s Zooey Deschanel’s “Rose Petals” creation is at a starting bid of $200.00: these shoes on wheels are not very functional (neither are the majority of the shoes in my closet) but they have me wanting more of what Miss Deschanel has to offer. I’m not saying give up the day job but I have a feeling she’ll be joining Gwen and the few in the near future. Check out Stuart Weitzman Online, for Zooey and other celebrity shoes for the Ovarian Cancer Fund.

Kimora Lee Simmons Hosts A Decade of Fashion

Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou

Who was one of the last to arrive at Kimora Lee Simmon’s Decade of Fashion party? Kimora, of course. As you know, fabulosity takes time. The minute she waltzed in, the energy in the room shifted. Reporters perked up and photographers had their cameras aimed and ready. She hit the red carpet like a pro, smiling and posing with hottie honey Djimon Hounsou. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that with all the presence she exudes on television, she’s even more striking and charismatic in person. The stylish glamazon had much to say…

GlamChic: What was the inspiration for your new line?

Kimora: Um, it’s a little Saharan Desert and disco. Disco in the desert. So, it was a neutral palette with pops of bright color. And it was sort of utilitarian pockets mixed with asymmetrical necklines and wide legs and high waists and big chunky jewelry. So it was very disco-ish. Great bags, great accessories.

GlamChic: What are your plans now that it’s over?

Kimora: I’m going to my dinner and after party here at The Plaza.

GlamChic: Are you relieved now that it’s over or are suffering a little Postpartum Depression?

Kimora: Well, Postpartum Depression is like when you’re sad and out of your mind and don’t know what’s going on. I’m in high ecstasy mode…high, happy, and ecstatic. I’m relieved it’s over but not depressed at all. It went really well. It was a great crowd. My honey was there, Carmelo Anthony was there, André Leon Talley was there. Serena Williams was there waiting for me. And I saw her at the U.S. Open, and I’m so proud of her. We’re going to party and have a good time tonight.

GlamChic: How do you stay down to earth with all the glitz and glam surrounding you?

Kimora: I am really down to earth. A lot of people don’t know that about me. I am very down to earth which means I will curse you out and love you equally. I’m from Saint Louis, Missouri. It’s like no airs about me. And anyone who knows me knows that’s true, and if you don’t know me, you think “Oh my god, she’s this and she’s that.” But you don’t know me. If you know me, I’m a good mother, I’m very down to earth. I keep it real. I keep it moving, hunny, which is why I’m a fashion staple. If you can’t keep it moving, it’s no good.

GlamChic: Speaking of motherhood, are you planning on having more children in the future?

Kimora: I would love to. I practice every day.

John Legend at Baby Phat

John Legend at Baby Phat

Celebrating a decade of fashion, Kimora Lee Simmons held a star-studded party at The Plaza on Friday night following her Baby Phat Spring 2009 runway show. Among the guest list was sexy musical crooner John Legend. (So cute!) FYI: He wears Invisalign on his top and bottom teeth. Who knew? Check out my red carpet interview:

GlamChic: There’s talk about a “new you” on the upcoming album. What brought about the change?

John Legend:
You know, it’s not a drastic change. I just upped the tempo, changed the beat a little bit, changed the sound. I’m still me but just with a different beat.

GlamChic:
What’s your favorite song on the new album?

John Legend:
Good Morning. It’s a song about morning sex.

GlamChic:
Do you and Andre 3000 trade style secrets?

John Legend: Nah, Andre does him, you know? Andre’s very unique and he’s got great style. He’s got his own line coming out and you know I can never be him so I don’t even try.

GlamChic: How is your charity doing?

John Legend:
Well, we did a year with the Gentleman’s Fund which was a GQ thing, but I have my own charity called the Show Me Campaign. We work on poverty. We work in Africa, and we do a thing called the Poverty Action Tour where we go to colleges around the country. I’m really pleased with the success of that. We’re still working very hard and raising a lot of money trying to save some lives.

GlamChic:
What’s the conversation like between you and Jeffrey Sachs (the director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University and author of The End of Poverty)?

John Legend: Oh, we just catch up on our travels. Talk politics a little bit. Talk about the work we’re doing. Talk music sometimes.

GlamChic:
Do you have any thoughts on Kanye’s arrest?

John Legend: No, no thoughts. In the video…I heard about the video obviously. I’m sure he’ll be fine.

GlamChic: Are there any trends you’re looking forward to for fall?

John Legend: I don’t really follow trends. John Legend’s album is coming out October 28th. That’s the most important thing for the fall. If you get that, then you’re all good.

Mark it on your calendars. It’s a must buy. Can’t wait! ~ Maria Denardo

June = Donna Karan Month

For the second month in a row, the Americans (especially her Zen-ness, Donna Karan) have clobbered the French and Italians in the ol’ magazine cover-credit olympics. Too bad the same can’t be said of our dollar versus their Euro…

15 Questions for Celebrity Stylist Britt Bardo

britt bardo
Celebrity Stylist Britt Bardo

Legit style advice is hard to come by these days, as we fashionistas get bombarded daily by random sale alerts, archaic rules (i.e. Don’t Wear White After Labor Day), and trend reports on out-of-our-reach accessories. Fortunately, even while being a stylist-to-the-stars, today’s resident expert Britt Bardo maintains down-to-earth approach to fashion and has a few DIY style tips up her designer sleeve. Here she briefs us on her background and reveals that the ultimate must-have accessory is a mega-watt smile:

o Hometown: I was born in Lima, Ohio, moved to Indiana when I was 13 and then To Detroit, Michigan when I was 18
o Current residence: Los Angeles, California
o Years in the business: 6
o First job in fashion: Helped run the G Star New York Showroom.
o Biggest Break: When I was an stylist assistant and Jennifer Lopez asked me to stop assisting and be her personal stylist.
o Favorite stylist trick: Take Polaroid pics of yourself in outfits so you can compare and see what looks best on you.

o Five items every girl needs in their wardrobe:
1. A pair of sexy but comfortable shoes
2. A great-fitting, sexy little white shirt. It is classic and chic and goes with everything.
3. Bold accessories. Give an outfit some ammunition with bold accessories
4. A pair of great fitting dark jeans with a touch of stretch for comfort. They can be dressed up or down for day or night.
5. Lastly, every wardrobe needs a natural and effortless touch. Smile! It’s so simple yet so effective. My secret weapon is Aquafresh White Trays Revive. It’s a touch up for previously whitened teeth. In just two days, you’ll have a brighter smile.

o Favorite summer trends: I love that any length is a go on dresses these days. Easy, comfortable Maxi and mini dresses are perfect for summer. Combine with a great gladiator sandal or high heel. Also I am really into accessories with light and delicate feathers right now. I have seen tons of earrings and bracelets that are incorporating this beautiful natural touch.

o Most treasured item in your closet: I have a small collection of chiffon vintage dresses from the 20’s and earlier which I LOVE and have helped inspire me when designing my own collection ROSE.

o Biggest inspiration: So many things but probably first and foremost my handful of super close girlfriends whom are so creative and have such beautiful spirits. We are constantly bouncing thoughts and ideas off of each other. Nature, the Ocean and the unconditional love and devotion I receive from my two dogs.

o Favorite vintage stores: The Way We Wore (Los Angeles), New York Vintage (NYC)

o Describe your own personal style: MOODY. A lot of black, definitely always an underlying tone of a harder edge there but pretty simple. I tend to focus on simple great silhouettes and add an amazing shoe and I like to pile on tons of delicate jewelry.

o Biggest mistake women make when shopping or getting dressed: Not buying or wearing the right undergarments. Also check out what you look like from both front and back.

o Favorite spring runway shows? Fall shows? Sonia Rykiel Spring 2008, Preen Spring 2008 Sonia Rykiel Fall 2008, Alexander Mcqueen Fall 2008, Alexander Wang Fall 2008

o Favorite city & why: It’s a tie between New York and Paris. New York for its electric energy that you feel the moment you arrive and Paris for its breathtaking old buildings and the sense of history, romance and magic the city puts out and of course because they are both fashion capitals.

If this isn’t the cutest, slightly-obnoxiously-sweet-yet-completely-endearing ensemble, I don’t know what is. Cotton-candy-colored platforms! A side-part with barrette! She’s wearing a jelly-bean printed dress for Pete’s sake! Beat that Blair Waldorf!

DVF: Designer, Icon, and Met Ball Shutterbug?

dvf wonderwoman

In case you didn’t know, Diane Von Furstenberg, she-of-the-wrap-dress and globetrotting-style bar-raiser (hel-loo?! Have you seen those H.Stern knuckle-dusters?) is certifiably awesome, in pretty much every way that counts. And in just the past ten days she’s given us 3 more demonstrations of her awesomeness:

1) She unveiled her Wonder Woman-inspired collection for holiday ’08. The freshy, sporty line features bold hues and patterns that recall my grade-school sticker collection, and is sure to fly right off shelves come November. (Get it? Fly?)

2) Last Monday she held court at the star-studded Costume Institute Ball. With the Olsen twins as one of her 6 dates. And she brought a camera.

3) She recently posted her VIP candids for all to see on her online “magazine.”

Love.

Check. It. Out. Now.

Cindy Crawford Retrospective

Today, on Vogue.co.uk there was a quote from Cindy Crawford about how she wished she had lived it up more in her early modeling days. This struck me as a bit odd, as I find it hard to believe that the bombshell was, as she says “sitting in the corner with a book,” during all of the ’80s and ’90s. Regardless, her hotness resurfacing in today’s fashion news prompted me to take a glance back at her modeling highlights. Here, a sampling of Crawford’s finest covershots–photographed in between chapters of Atlas Shrugged no doubt:
