Today, as you well know, is Tuesday; the jour on which many graceful children are supposedly born and nearly all political primaries are scheduled to take place. In doing some preliminary research on the next big P-Day (Pennsylvania: April 22nd, FYI) the kids interns here at Glam came across some interesting info:
Save for native Valley Forger Tory Burch–whose Palm Beach and Park Avenue-perfect threads cover up her Main Line roots–there’s nary a Pennsylvania-born fashion designer to be found! (And no, Jay McCarroll and his one-off runway spectacle doesn’t count.) So what gives in the Keystone state? Why the void of Scrantonian taste-makers? Who knows!:You’re looking at a fashion blog here, not a crystal ball. (So we can’t help predict the April 22nd outcome either, sorry.)
To distract you from these and other important quandaries, check out this snapshot of what NYC-based talent was born where–and get a taste of what kind of fashion fun and games is in store for spring ‘08 on GlamChic:

So remember how yesterday I pointed out that the PETA people were focusing their attention on Donna Karan? Well, I’d naively suggested that they might be planning to protest her fall show–I never would have imagined that they were really interested in crashing her pad. This was in today’s New York Post:
“According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals rep Michael McGraw, the group sent “a fashionably dressed young woman, clad in knee-high black boots and a denim miniskirt, to Karan’s Central Park West home, with a tray of soy lattes in her hand. The PETA operative was actually surprised when “she was invited into Karan’s vast apartment, greeted by an assistant and offered a seat. As housekeepers, stylists and other assistants buzzed around, the activist, equipped with a miniature DVD player, waited for Karan,” McGraw told Page Six.”
Although it’s an unfortunate experience for Karan to be sure, let this serve as a lesson to us all, that (to quote Thomas Fuller) “Good clothes open all doors,” especially those with burly security guards.

Peta protestors patiently waiting for the 1 uptown train
From the sound of things, Donna Karan is having a rough fashion week. This morning, rumors swirled at the tents that the usually zen folks behind the uber-designer had to send a $11,000 invoice to a big-name magazine for losing a slew of spring ‘08 looks during a shoot. (UPS supposedly lost the precious cargo and a stylist forgot to insure the shipment. D-oh!) Then, our show-going spies caught sight of some Peta members gearing up for one of their “happenings”, possibly at tomorrow’s show. That, combined with the usual pre-show pressure, is stressful to be sure, but fortunately it’s nothing that some quality vinyasana can’t fix, right DK?

Victoria’s Secret models Selita Ebanks, Izabel Goulart and Karolina Kurkova
In case the non-stop fashion week coverage has completely numbed your mind, a friendly reminder that another kind of sartorial holiday, Valentine’s Day, takes place next week. In lieu of a runway bonanza, the bodacious folks at Victoria’s Secret held an intimate presentation (get it? intimate?!) of their sweet underpinning styles at the lingerie house’s 34th Street Flagship today. Stressed out by trying to figure out what to wear today? Take heart–literally. In honor of February 1st, National Go Red for Women: Heart Disease Awareness Day, don a red dress, coat, or blouse to show your support for the cause. Donning a crimson-colored something not only raises awareness about the preventable disease (the #1 cause of death among women) it eliminatess your wardrobe woes as well. (For this Friday anyway.) If there’s nothing cherry-colored in your closet, here’s your chance to stock up now.
