Lancôme and Marc: A Mere Coincidence?

Lancome Juicy Tube

Designer extraordinaire Marc Jacobs has accidentally teamed up with French cosmetic company Lancôme Paris for a sexy lip gloss-tee combo you’re gonna love. Lancôme is offering the lip gloss (obvi) which is decked out in thigh-high fishnet packaging and topped off with a little gold cap. The super cute gloss is called Juicy Tubes Rose Fishnets, and it’s available in a one shade fits all rosy-nude with a slight gold shimmer. The company made it exclusively for Sephora for $18. Believe me, you’ll get your money’s worth. Keep one handy in every purse for a glossy shine that will capture the spirit of romantic nights in Paris no matter where you are.

Marc Jacobs tee

Does Marc Jacobs ever get it wrong? (Hardly!) And this is no exception. His Marc by Marc Jacobs Cotton Fishnet Tee is a great addition to any wardrobe and just so happens to perfectly match Lancôme’s lip gloss. Bravo, MJ. This jersey knit will look fabulous tucked into a high-waisted black pencil skirt for a ladylike ensemble that’s so fall 2008. It would also be a nice layering piece for cooler days like today. Grab your hottest pair of heels and Lancôme Paris Juicy Tubes Rose Fishnets and you’ve got a chic winning look. Au revoir… ~ Maria Denardo

Erin Wasson x for RVCA

ern-wasson.JPG

I know I’ve written with a little distaste about celebrities and clothing lines in previous articles….but models and clothing lines are an entirely different story. Although certain models have reached or transitioned into celebrity heights their more humble beginnings were wearing and walking in fabulous clothes for a living. Erin Wasson, celebrity but more notably, model, has joined Kate Moss with a (I predict) soon to be successful clothing line and collaboration with RVCA. If you didn’t know, now you do, no Glam girl should go without her 16-piece capsule collection this spring (and Elizabeth and James- but that’s another article!) There are seriously no excuses, because everything from her cut tanks, jumpsuits, blazers, sheer tops, shredded denim jeans and teeny weeny black dresses and skirts are completely affordable, ranging from $55-$230. What’s even better is that she has a 3 year contract with RVCA, so there’s going to be even more where that came from.

Dear Erin, I love you, thanks for clothing me this season because you’re pretty much all I’ll be wearing x- Francine Uba

15 Questions for Celebrity Stylist Britt Bardo

britt bardo
Celebrity Stylist Britt Bardo

Legit style advice is hard to come by these days, as we fashionistas get bombarded daily by random sale alerts, archaic rules (i.e. Don’t Wear White After Labor Day), and trend reports on out-of-our-reach accessories. Fortunately, even while being a stylist-to-the-stars, today’s resident expert Britt Bardo maintains down-to-earth approach to fashion and has a few DIY style tips up her designer sleeve. Here she briefs us on her background and reveals that the ultimate must-have accessory is a mega-watt smile:

o Hometown: I was born in Lima, Ohio, moved to Indiana when I was 13 and then To Detroit, Michigan when I was 18
o Current residence: Los Angeles, California
o Years in the business: 6
o First job in fashion: Helped run the G Star New York Showroom.
o Biggest Break: When I was an stylist assistant and Jennifer Lopez asked me to stop assisting and be her personal stylist.
o Favorite stylist trick: Take Polaroid pics of yourself in outfits so you can compare and see what looks best on you.

o Five items every girl needs in their wardrobe:
1. A pair of sexy but comfortable shoes
2. A great-fitting, sexy little white shirt. It is classic and chic and goes with everything.
3. Bold accessories. Give an outfit some ammunition with bold accessories
4. A pair of great fitting dark jeans with a touch of stretch for comfort. They can be dressed up or down for day or night.
5. Lastly, every wardrobe needs a natural and effortless touch. Smile! It’s so simple yet so effective. My secret weapon is Aquafresh White Trays Revive. It’s a touch up for previously whitened teeth. In just two days, you’ll have a brighter smile.

o Favorite summer trends: I love that any length is a go on dresses these days. Easy, comfortable Maxi and mini dresses are perfect for summer. Combine with a great gladiator sandal or high heel. Also I am really into accessories with light and delicate feathers right now. I have seen tons of earrings and bracelets that are incorporating this beautiful natural touch.

o Most treasured item in your closet: I have a small collection of chiffon vintage dresses from the 20’s and earlier which I LOVE and have helped inspire me when designing my own collection ROSE.

o Biggest inspiration: So many things but probably first and foremost my handful of super close girlfriends whom are so creative and have such beautiful spirits. We are constantly bouncing thoughts and ideas off of each other. Nature, the Ocean and the unconditional love and devotion I receive from my two dogs.

o Favorite vintage stores: The Way We Wore (Los Angeles), New York Vintage (NYC)

o Describe your own personal style: MOODY. A lot of black, definitely always an underlying tone of a harder edge there but pretty simple. I tend to focus on simple great silhouettes and add an amazing shoe and I like to pile on tons of delicate jewelry.

o Biggest mistake women make when shopping or getting dressed: Not buying or wearing the right undergarments. Also check out what you look like from both front and back.

o Favorite spring runway shows? Fall shows? Sonia Rykiel Spring 2008, Preen Spring 2008 Sonia Rykiel Fall 2008, Alexander Mcqueen Fall 2008, Alexander Wang Fall 2008

o Favorite city & why: It’s a tie between New York and Paris. New York for its electric energy that you feel the moment you arrive and Paris for its breathtaking old buildings and the sense of history, romance and magic the city puts out and of course because they are both fashion capitals.

If you haven’t yet found the time to swing by the bi-annual Diane Von Furstenberg sample sale, hop to it as it ends tomorrow at 3 PM. However should you want to indulge in some slash-priced shopping, be sure to wear comfy shoes and simple attire: As of earlier this week, the wait to get in was substantial while the dressing rooms were few & far between, forcing girls to slap on wrap-dresses over their clothes in between the packed aisles…

Sneak Peek: J.Crew Fall 2008 Collection

jcrew store mens
A glimpse at J.Crew’s fall collection

While I’ve long been a high-heels-wearing girly-girl, lately there’s been moments when I’ve secretly envied the male sex. Between the possibility of being Clooney-cool and the likelihood of earning 30% more per paycheck, sometimes modern-day manhood—especially the dapper clothes that come with—can look pretty appealing.

Come September chances are that you’ll be singing the same tune, as J.Crew unveils its fall menswear line most of which, I just found out, can be categorized as Portland-ified version of boarding school classics. Hefty knit ties! Slim Cary Grant-suits! Morrissey-inspired casuals! (Oh to wear those sharp styles and not be viewed as an Annie Hall copy-cat!) Best of all though, these affordable high-end finds will be available online and at J.C.’s soon-to-be opened Tribeca outpost—which will no doubt attract dozens of Wall Streeters who want bespoke-looking pieces at recession-friendly prices.

Of course, if the tomboy look doesn’t appeal to your ladylike sensibility, there’ll be plenty of sexy secretary pieces in the womens collection to choose from too. Just the sight of the floral-accented cardies and sleek pencil skirts cured my wardrobe-envy and reminded me how much (in the words of Rodgers & Hammerstein) I enjoy being a girl.

Heels of Fortune

heels of fortune saks

Though it may seem otherwise, this is not an ad. This is a public service announcement, aimed at directing you (shoe-crazy shoppers) to good deals (like this one). ($150 in play money after snapping up 2 pairs of heels? Why, it almost justifies the splurge. Nice.)

Also, it’s as good a time as any to my testimonial of appreciation to Saks, specifically the now-famous zip code shoe floor in their Fifth Avenue flagship. Shopping in NYC department stores isn’t usually my bag (the crowds, the top 40 soundtrack, the cheerful barrage of things I can’t afford) but Saks’ shoe selection, sales, and staff really can’t be beat. If you’re in town, swing by the store and ask for the charming Dennis (who has an editor’s eye for shoes, knows what’s going on sale next, and won’t lie when you ask him if your feet look fat) and he’ll help you out. In the meantime, put your heels up and hop online for some affordable retail therapy.

Love Fest: Target & Gap Tap New Guest Designers

 gap cfda snapshot
A preview of the 2008 CFDA designer Gap editions

Does the fashion crowd not have their calendars all up to date? With all the cheery, lovey-dovey announcements that flew through cyber-space today, one would think it was Valentine’s Day not the aforementioned Irish holiday. First, the head honchos at Gap announced that a few of the CFDA’s design darlings–including Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian, Philip Crangi and threeASFOUR–will all unveil their limited edition designs for the classic sportswear house on April 15th. (Remember the mad rush for last year’s Rodarte, Thakoon, & Doo.Ri numbers? Might want to consider canceling your personal trainer for the A.M. of 4/15/08. Just a thought.)

THEN, not to be outdone, Target tipped off a few fashion VIPs that Monica Botkier will be their next guest designer, with her cheap ‘n’ chic satchels hitting stores in late July-August. (Imagine: Botkier beach bags and back-to-school totes! What could be better?) What a lovely day! To top off these new designer-mega-brand orgies, the news serves as a reminder that Target and Gap have always known the style-savvy shopper’s guilty secret: The know the way to our heart is through our wallet.

Zara Home

zara spring 2008
Zara Spring 2008

It’s a busy day here at the Glam mothership, but not so busy that I didn’t find a few spare minutes to roam around online a bit: Hoping to find a wallet-friendly version of the fringe clutch I saw in a certain elite Parisian shop, I wandered over to Zara.

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled up not just sleek, YSL-esque tailored separates but an impressive array of Jade Jagger-worthy home goods as well! Were you aware that fortunate folks in the U.K., France, Monaco and a few other stars in the E.U. constellation can acquire budget-conscious David Hicks-inspired decor from the Spanish clothing label? ONLINE, no less?

I, as you can probably tell, did not know that this luxury even existed. First Ikea, then Habitat, and now this? No wonder intimate house parties are still de rigeur in the E.U. If our homes were as fashionable as theirs, we’d never want to cross threshold either.
