Recently I was at an event where I discovered Pravda Vodka. On a small table were glamorous bottles of Pravda Vodka encrusted with a jewel and tiny jars of fruit preserves. “You’re not going to make cocktails with jam, are you?” I asked the person manning the table. Yes! I was told. And what a cool idea. Using intense fruit preserves makes for a fresh tasting sweet cocktail. It didn’t taste “cooked” or jammy at all.
What I also love about this cocktail is that it’s about the easiest one ever to make! Fancy cocktails often have 4 or 5 ingredients to layer flavors and create something complex and beguiling. This cocktail uses vodka and a pantry staple item, fruit preserves.
Lots of cocktail recipes use mixes that are filled with artificial ingredients. High quality fruit, herbs, flowers and even vegetables make for fresher cocktails. I’m searching my pantry now for more ideas….
