Get ready for more airline passengers trying to shove their bags into overhead bins.
On the heels of its announcement a few weeks ago that it will charge $25 to check a second bag, American Airlines has announced that it will now charge passengers $15 to check their first bag. The charge will apply each way, so checking a bag on a round-trip flight will cost $30.
Passengers who purchase their tickets or fly before June 15, fly internationally with two or fewer bags, buy full-fare tickets on economy, business or first class, are active military personnel or are Gold or Platinum AAdvantage members will not be charged the $15 fee.
In addition, the fee does not apply to car seats, wheelchairs or strollers.
This announcement reflects the airlines’ need to offset high fuel costs. Other airlines have announced that they will charge to check second bags; to read our post on their policies, click here.

is it one bag per person? if a couple checks two bags, what is the policy? do they rip us off and call that checking a second bag? just raise ticket prices and do away with the manipulative charges, which only serve to piss people off.
