Plump It Up: Lip Plumpers

I won’t be getting collagen anytime soon; I enjoy lip plumpers too much. Not only are the glosses much cheaper than the cosmetic needle injections, but they’re also easier, come in carious shades, and can even be tasty! As far as the pain factor, they range, but I have actually come to like the slight sting of LipFusion, and the chill of Duwop’s Lip Venom 2nd sin, Two Faced’s Lip Injection is not for the weak, but does have serious pout plumpin’ power. I’ve tried most on the market, but I’m always looking out for a new one, here are a few that caught my attention on the Glam Network! Pick up one of these and you’ll be looking like Angelina in no time!

Focus On Style has found an organic lip plumper with “the yummiest tangerine taste in town.”

Makeup Minute discovered NYX Cosmetics Super Volume Lip Plumper that is designed to give you 40% fuller lips.

Free-Beauty-Tips has the 5 steps to get big beautiful lips without the collagen.

MAC lipgloss is often a fan favorite. Now they’ve added eight more shades to their Plumpglass stock. Beautiful Makeup Search & Beauty Blog has all the details on the new hues!

Kiss and Makeup believes the pain-free Lipsmart could be a plumping miracle!

Sephora here I come!!

Stay classy,

Annie

P.S. Get Luscious Lips with these hot plumpers!

Creative Contests: Are You Feeling Lucky?

It seems like spring is the season for promotions, contests, entry forms and big winnings. The contest ideas are wide ranging, and the opportunities vary from talented design competitions to just plain old luck (i.e. no skills required). I recently won under the latter circumstance (I happened to be the 5th caller for Giants tickets), but let me tell ya, it felt good! Who doesn’t love freebies/ recognition/ rewards/winning? Here are a few fun contests I found across the Glam Network, why not give one (or a few) a try!

Dwell invites you to design a modern home in the wonderful urban community of San Francisco’s SOMA district. Submit proposals for one of three varied floor plans for homes in The Infinity.

                    The Infinity

For artists and graphic designers, Domestik Goddess spotlights a chance to design the next bottle of the fashionable and eco-friendly beverage, SIGG.

Think your cookies are the best around? Then enter your original recipe in The Search for the Mrs. Fields 30th Anniversary Cookie Contest. Foodie Obsessed has all the details.

Most of you seem to think Sanjaya should have been booted from Idol much earlier in the competition. Nows the chance to prove even you are better than controversial contestant. Idol Stalker has the scoop on the R U Better Than Sanjaya contest.

                                 Sanjaya

Crafty with a steak knife? The Food Section has info on a contest to create an iPod Shuffle out of meat. Maybe not for the vegetarians out there.

There are also two exciting promotions here at Glam! I’ve already told you about the Dreamgirls “Dream Big” Giveaway, and now here’s your chance to BE DISCOVERED! Marie Claire and Glam are looking for the next great handbag designer.

                          Be Discovered

Stay classy,

Annie

P.S. Be sure to let me know if you win any of these contests. Here’s hoping you do!!

Meet The Publisher: Fashiontribes

Now that I have opened about about myself, I thought the best idea would be to divert attention to the Glam Network stat! I am starting a new weekly post here on GlamLive to highlight our 300+ Publishers. I will ask the same list of questions to eyerone, and will post their interesting answers here each week! We will learn who has a Ph.D., who wans to escape to a tropical island to lay topless in the surf, and plenty of other entertaining details.

Our first participant in the GlamLive questionnaire is the multi-talented Lesley from Fashiontribes! Here we go…

Let us in on 5 fun facts about you! Well…let’s see. I…
1. grew up in Hong Kong
2. spent two years teaching in Kazakstan (yes, Jagshemash!) as well as Riga (Latvia) & Romania
3. have been to Easter Island
4. used to work as a fashion stylist & on-set tailor in New York
5. love to paint, drink good wine & O.D. on home-makeover shows

What is your favorite item in your closet? My sunglasses!

Fill in the blank: I can’t live without… loved ones, good friends & a frequent belly-laugh (daily, if possible)

What’s your favorite gift to give? It really depends on the recipient. If they love to travel, I’ll give some cool travel gadget. History buffs will get the latest must-have book, while fashionistas get fab accessories. However, when in doubt, a gorgeous candle from Diptyque is always most welcome.

If you could max out your credit card at one shop, which one? Barneys or Takashimaya

What’s one thing every woman should own? In fashion: a Little Black Dress. For travel: a current passport. For communicating in writing: Strunk & White. For everyday: a great bag.

What inspired you to start your blog/site? I had been writing for quite some time for magazines like Marie Claire in Asia, GQ Taiwan, Elle Girl Korea & 25 Ans - but blogging turned out to be a much more fun & friendly.

If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be? People-watching & drinking tea in the enormous, but charming, cobblestone-covered Beyazit Square in Istanbul.

Who is your celebrity style mate? Eva Mendes

Do you have any hidden talents? As someone who can argue (in Romanian, no less) with cab drivers in Bucharest, navigate the Moscow subway system, bribe customs officials (Belarus), and flirt their way to a great deal on a hotel room in Sofia (Bulgaria) - I’m the type of traveler you want along on more offbeat vacations.

Name your favorite…
Cocktail: fabulous red wine
Color: fuschia
Band/Singer: Dinah Washington
Fashion Trend: dresses, skirts & the new grownup ladylike vibe
Book: fiction: A Confederacy of Dunces & 100 Years of Solitude; non-fiction: Fingerprints of the Gods

Learn more about the latest trends,  affordable fashions, designer details, pop culture pointers and more at Fashiontribes. Thanks, Lesley!

Get To Know The Glam Girls Part V

So, I was tagged by GlamSpree to let you in on 10 secrets about me. From my denim dilemmas to my cooking prowess, it would seem that personal scoop just flows freely from me, but it’s really not that simple. As if writing about oneself wasn’t hard enough, I just don’t have many juicy secrets (I know, BOORING). So instead, I’ll let you in on a few of my obsessions, a couple of my quirks, and a serious(ly stupid) fear.

1. I love quotations. I must have thousands written in notebooks, on napkins or the back of receipts. From Sex and the City to Yogi Beera, notoriety doesn’t matter, it’s all about whit, originality and insight. Lately, I’ve found a few favorites on the side of my Starbucks cups under The Way I See It.

2. I’m sort of obsessed with eBay and Craigslist. I don’t buy all that often, but love scanning for vintage designs, rare releases, dream real estate or just for entertainment. Most wouldn’t believe the crazy things being sold on these sites- who seriously wants Paris Hilton’s Dirty Laundry Hamper (FYI- apparently it’s in excellent condition)?

3. I think greatness is found in the most minute details. I’m a total sucker for hidden enhancements. Be it the paisley print lining my trench, or the bright magenta suede inside my taupe leather handbag, I love creative little touches that are invisible to most eyes, but especially appreciated by mine!

4. I adore Marc Jacobs. I want it all, usually. I think his Marc by Marc Jacobs line fits my style best, but sometimes I wonder if he’s discreetly laughing at shoppers’ adamant consumption of rat motifs or the Miss Marc print.

5. I’ve always wanted to be an architect. I grew up infatuated by the pages of Architectural Digest, Elle Décor, Better Homes and Gardens, I still love them. If the career didn’t involve straight-edged drafting or complicated math equations, I’d be designing homes.

6. I thoroughly enjoy documentaries. Dogtown and Z-boys is a favorite, and I just rented the Dixie Chick’s Shut Up and Sing, I highly recommend! Completely ignoring Deal or No Deal AND MTV’s Sweet Sixteen, I caught myself watching a two-hour PBS special on Haight-Ashbury’s Summer of Love last night. Try to catch an episode of Planet Earth (Discovery, Sunday nights), it’s amazing!

7. I am a total Sporty-Spice (just in cuter outfits). I played three competitive sports growing up, traveled the country with various teams and I’ve been a 49er season ticket holder since I was 18 months old (my mom claims a ticket was cheaper than a babysitter back in the day). Bocce ball or beer pong, I’m game for it all!

8. I always crave sushi. I wish I could eat it everyday. No matter the roll, it never seems to disappoint! And with a little seaweed salad on the side, I am a happy girl!

9. I heart Pop Art. As an Art History major, I should be more admiring of the Renaissance (all of them), Rococo, Impressionism, etc, but I’m always drawn to the colors, graphics, themes and humor of Warhol, Lichtenstein, Jones and others. While interning for Christie’s, I once saw an original of Warhol’s daisies laying on the ground, I was drooling, if only I could have stashed it in my handbag!

10. Bird conservationists beware, I seriously loath/fear the feathered kind. Pigeons, ducks, crows, etc., I think they all need to go. It started with traumatic childhood events involving a friend’s pet parrot- my taunting would lead to it chasing me around the house and occasionally leaving beak bite marks- and it continues today with my neighbor’s strategically placed birdfeeder!

So there you have it, c’est moi. GlamNest you’re up next, consider yourself tagged! With your ingenious recipe finds, travel recommendations and party tips, you’ll have no trouble letting us in on a few spicy secrets!

Check her blog soon to learn 10 things you didn’t know about the always entertaining Erika, Glam’s Lifestyle Editor!

 Annie

Must-See Flicks List

I love hitting the movie theatres on lazy Saturday’s, or cuddling up on the couch with a rental on a Friday night in. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much weekend down-time lately (being the social butterfly that I am, wink-wink), so I’m a little behind on recent releases, both in the theatres and on DVD. In hopes of getting back on track with the latest flicks, I scanned the Glam Network for movie reviews and compiled a list of must-sees…

Even before seeing Hollyscoop’s coverage of the In The Land of Women premiere, I was hooked. How can you resist “the new mature looking” Adam Brody? Watching the trailer below, sealed the deal for me. I’m seeing a Wednesday night showing!

                               itlow.jpg

Who doesn’t love a good Adam Sandler comedy? Obviously I’m excited to see I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. If the humor isn’t enough for ya, Bumpshack adds that  Jessica Biel makes an appearance in her undies - I guess that means I’ll have no trouble getting my boyfriend to come along too (or maybe that means I shouldn’t even invite him!).

Spiderman opens May 4th, and with a rumored price tag of over $500 million, how could it not be good? Celebrity Mound has the scoop behind the pricy flick!

I really wanted to see The Holiday back in December, but with the craziness of the actual holidays, I didn’t make it to the theatre. After reading Allie Is Wired’s review (“It’s certainly worth watching”), I’m definitely picking it up on the next Blockbuster run.

I’ve been anxiously waiting for the DreamGirls DVD release. And now that it’s here, I not only plan to rent it, but I’m also enterting to win the ultimate Mother’s Day gift, The Dreamgirls “Dream Big” Getaway. Cross your fingers, mom!

Stay classy,

Annie

P.S. Have you seen any great movies lately that I didn’t mention here? Let me know!
