Get to Know the Glam Girls: 10 Things I Can’t Live Without

From my weekend agenda to the latest recipe attemps, it may seem like I unabashedly enjoy talking about myself, but as I’ve explained before, it’s really not all that easy! I was stealthly tagged (notice the comments) by GlamScene editor, Lauren, to partake in the latest topic of  the “Get To Know The Glam Girls” series- this time it’s about revealing the 10 items I can’t live without. Clearly I’m taking this much too seriously, or I’m just ashamed by my unwarranted and conspicuous consumption, because I found this task rather difficult…but enough about me, here are my 10 Must-Haves:

The Cell Phone- I don’t really remember the days of the pay-phone, but I’ve had way too many roadside-emergencies to ever think about leaving home without my pink slvr, that thing is literally my life-line.

Curly Hair Essentials- From my trusty old diffuser to my Ouidad and Aveda products, my locks would be [even more of] a tangled mess without them.

Cheese- Parmesan, pepper-jack, and feta, oh my! What’s not to love about this dairy delight? Thankfully, I’m not lactose intolerant, because I gotta have cheese!

Flats- Much like India from GlamBlush, I can’t imagine surviving a long day without flats. My obsession started as an ambitious intern 5 years ago, I wore heels for my first week and ended up crawling to the bus come Friday afternoon. Yeah, I do mix in the occasional wedge platform, but ballet skimmers have my heart!

Wet Wipes-I’m not talking about the diaper change kind, but, instead, the scented sheets of sanitizing goodness. Usually, it’s Lysol citrus scent, these babies keep things clean, smelling fresh and germ free!

Salt- I certainly have a sweet tooth and my doctor has advised sodium limitations, but few things taste perfect without the addition of a little salt, kosher sea salt being the best.

Bronzer- In order to liven up the pasty-pale-shade of German-Scottish-Irish genes, I add a little bronzer and suddenly I’m transformed in to a golden goddess. Yeah, right. But really, with more and more instances of sun related skin damage, I’ve come to rely on Tan Towels and DuWop’s Revolution to give me that “natural” glow.

Reality TV-I am not embarrassed to admit it and I’m well aware that the “reality” aspect is usually a dirty sham, but from So You Think You Can Dance to Man vs. Wild, I am entertained by them all.

Denim- It’s a never ending task to find the perfect pair of jeans, but nothing could be as essential or adaptable to a girl’s wardrobe.

My People- I’m sure I am a little biased, but I have the most amazing friends who are like family, and vise-versa!

Style on the Cheap

With a new apartment to decorate, summer sales to frequent, and the obligatory latte (or two) during the day, I’ve managed to max out my credit card. Again. So, in order to check my bad habit before it kicks me to the poorhouse, I’ve decided enough’s enough. I’m going on a fiscal diet, and baby, it’s going to hurt.

Well, that was yesterday, and I have to say that it’s really been difficult. I’ve seen approximately a gazillion different things I need to buy for my pad on Dwell, the gigantic sale at NET-A-PORTER’s been calling my name (Gucci, Miu Miu and Chloe? Oh my!), and I’m about to pass out head-to-monitor style from caffeine withdrawal. But, with a little encouragement from my lovelies on the Glam Network, I’ll be thrifty and loving it in no time!

I’ve been seriously sweating summer dresses of all kinds, but alas, my budget cannot support the addition of a halter, a strapless, a jumper AND a racerback, I’ll just have to make do with American Apparel’s genius convertible dress featured on Second City Style. Seriously. For $35 you can wear it 15 different ways. That’s a little more than $2 a dress, right?

Forget about shelling out the train fare to get to the beach! I’m having my own beach-fest on my roof. Catwalk Queen’s found the perfect accessory–and the best part? It’s only 6 Euros!

It’s not like I NEED a new pair of flats or whatever, but these Tom’s shoes are crazy cute and also crazy cheap ($38). Fashiontribes reports that you’re getting more than cute shoes for yourself: for every pair purchased, another is donated to a child in need.

And thank goodness for The Budget Fashionista. With simple tips to cut down on your food and entertainment costs, this site is a godsend for those with tight wallets.

And plus, with enough saving up, I’ll be able to afford those things that are really important. Like this. And this. :)

Lots of love, Connie

Boho or Bust

My new apartment is located smack dab in the hippiest location in all of the East Bay. I’m a short distance away from the greenest of grocers (that exclusively stocks locally grown, organic goods), two Bikram Yoga studios, more vegan/raw-foodist restaurants than I can count, and dozens of independently owned boutiques selling Tibetan scarves and tie-dyed dresses.

It’s probably peer-pressure (or rather, neighbor-pressure), but I’ve been living a lot more green these past few weeks. But, this doesn’t mean that I’m ready to invest in my first pair of Birkenstock’s, or that I’m going to let my razor collect dust. The whole hippie-chic aesthetic is really part of the mainstream now, and along with the Glam Network, it’s time to hop onto the boho bandwagon (a hybrid model, of course).

Balenciaga’s newest line is infused with earth-child sensibilities. Fashiontribe’s showcased this beautiful dress along with some fab pieces to accessorize it with.

What’s more iconic than a headscarf? Just My Cup of Tea shows you how to tie one right.

Snag a guy and smell like a garden while doing it. Beauty Addict explains why men are most attracted to…vegetables?

Apparently, I’m not alone in this quest for a greener life. The fashion honchos that head up the twice-yearly Mercedes Benz Fashion Week recently announced that their events in October will focus on sustainability, and eco-friendly fashions and designers. Thanks to Fashion Indie for the good news!

Just so you know, eco-friendly footwear does not equal a closetful of tevas. Check out these beauties featured on HippieShopper.

And remember, you body is a temple. Keep it spic and span with the world’s best tasting sparkling water (as deemed by The Berkeley Springs Winter Festival of Waters). As it turns out, Antipodes is Chubby Hubby’s agua of choice too.

Peace out!

Lots of love, Connie

Meet The Publisher: eBeauty Daily, Nail Tech Secrets

You may have already spotted her in The New York Times, or Allure Magaine, or perhaps Women’s Wear Daily, but here’s your chance to discover even more about the beauty-loving-internet-addict, Christina Jones from eBeauty Daily and Nail Tech Secrets.  Christina’s blogs offer “daily bytes of beauty”  like helpful tips, product reviews, latest color collections and a few celebrity tidbits. Clearly, Christina has got your beauty needs covered!

Let us in on 5 fun facts about you!
1. I am a hunter and a hobby taxidermist
2. I have a Brad Pitt fetish.
3. I am a big snob when it comes to bags and accessories.
4. I cut my own hair – almost exclusively
5. I’m gonna be a crazy cat lady when I am old – I just know it. ;)

What is your favorite item in your closet?  A Black and Tan little spandex dress from Max Azria

Fill in the blank: I can’t live without…  chocolate, duh. ;)

What’s your favorite gift to give?  Beauty products, of course!

If you could max out your credit card at one shop, which one?  Sephora, no doubt

What’s one thing every woman should own?  A great bag!

What inspired you to start your blog/site?  Beauty has been my favorite topic for a long, long time, and when I started eBeautyDaily, there wasn’t much online about beauty, beyond iVillage, and certainly not much in the blog world.  I was also very inspired by Shai Coggins, and wanted to join the fun!

If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?  The beach!  Any beach will do.  I love sand and surf more than just about anything.

Who is your celebrity style mate?  Angelina Jolie

Do you have any hidden talents?  No.  Ha ha.  I play piano, I love to draw (pencil and charcoal) but I’m no “big artiste.”  But it’s very relaxing and fun to me.

Name your favorite:
Cocktail:  Martini – Skye, dirty, shaken
Color: Pink!
Band/Singer:  Scissor Sisters, at the moment
Fashion Trend: I am pretty classic really – but I always love it when Capri pants are in style.
Book: Angels & Demons, by Dan Brown

Thanks so much, Christina, for taking the time to let us in on your many personal stats, though I’ve never met a hobby taxidermist, I don’t know one woman who won’t admit to a Pitt obsession!

Stay classy,

Annie

Weekend Agenda

So the approaching weekend is the first one in months that I haven’t had way too many things planned and too little time. The graduation festivities have finished, and I’ve decided to skip out on a friend’s 30th out-of-town-bday-party (Happy Birthday, JP!) to stay home in the city for a little R&R. Even with time to chill-out, I usually have a hard time sitting still. Most likely, I will attempt/dabble in a few of these activities that inspired me on the GPN.

GET CRAFTY: I’ve been wanting to hit the bead store and work up some sparkly gifts for friends. I found tons of cool ideas on Jewelry and Beading. Or maybe I’ll finally get to finishing a few scrapbook pages I started last year, Madcropper has me motivated!

        Nanexhibit

                Nan Kempner’s Famous Closet

VISIT AN EXHIBIT: I wanted to head east to visit the Nan Kempner exhibit at the met a few months back, so you can imagine my excitement when Coquette highlighted its San Francisco run!

HIT THE LINKS: I have the clubs, I’ve taken the lessons, now I just need to get on the course! I’m also anxious to try out some of the pro tips I’ve picked up on Green Posse. Watch out Michelle Wie!

               chicagoart

               Art Institute of Chicago

PLAN A VACAY: The BF and I have been talking about visiting a new city for a quick weekend adventure in the near future. Although I’d love the beach, I’ve been leaning towards heading East. I’ve always wanted to see the Art Institute in Chicago, and after seeing The Chicago Traveler’s review, my mind is made up!

PEDICURE PAMPERING: I’m slightly embarrassed to admit I’ve been painting my own toenails for the last month. Since it’s sandal season, I really must take some time to get the real deal! I love the colors in the Toe-Tally Fun collection I spotted on Overall Beauty!

So much for a relaxing weekend on the couch.

Stay classy,

Annie
