Be Glam

It’s my last day interning for Annie here at Glam and my last entry for this blog. Tomorrow, I’ll be flying home for a couple weeks to recharge for the beginning of school. And despite the long commutes and early mornings, I couldn’t have asked for a better internship. I’ve spent my summer reading all these fantastic blogs, writing about things I love, and learning about this crazy industry from the amazingly innovative people who make up the Glam team. It’s been incredible.

But, the biggest thing that I’m taking away from this experience (besides a hefty load of BART receipts), is what exactly being glam means.

Lots of people are too quick to dismiss it as having the latest runway outfits, or the trendiest clothes. But if you look at the pitiful states of some of the most affluent of celebrities such as Lindsay and Britney, having the cutest duds does not make one glam (The Bosh, Hollyscoop).

So what is being glam all about? I think that glam is about confidence. Glam is about loving life. Being glam is about paving your own path while minding others in your way. Being glam is about having an open mind and a caring heart.

(Ask Fashion Kitty, Cancer Commentary, Teen Fashionista, Common Sense PR, The Hilton Files, Chubby Hubby)

Of course, glam is also about beauty, as long as what’s inside is just as gorgeous as what’s outside. Being glam is having the respect for your own body as well as respect for the other bodies on this earth. Glam is about fun! Glam is about family.

(Yoga Coffee Outlook, Beauty Addict, Lively Women, Hippy Shopper, One Haute Chic, Babylune)

Glam is about loving simple things as well as exquisite things. Glam is about appreciating timeless classics as well as nurturing creativity. Being Glam is staying on the cusp on things while letting old traditions mellow around us.

The Glam Network espouses all the values that its readers have. We’re smart, stylish, witty and aware. We’re beautiful, we’re passionate, we’re original and inventive! Better yet, we’re young and old! Modern and traditional! Fun and contemplative! We’re everything the woman of today is, and everything that I could hope to be.

So thanks for everything! It’s been such a rewarding trip!

Lots of love, Connie

Pack It Up!

Some have described my closet as “messy” and “cluttered”, but I prefer to refer to it as “organizationally-challenged”. And especially now, that I have to pack up for school condense my expansive amount of stuff into a shared cell (er, I mean, room), I’m really noticing the fact that my organization technique is more “piles and stacks” than “hangers and racks”.

However, with a little help from the Glam Network, I’m sure that I’ll be able to tidy up enough to free up some walking space in my room.

Casey Lewis from Teen Fashionista’s been fretting about the same thing. She gives the college student a step by step instructional on what to bring, and what to leave behind.

Still confused as to what to bring? Southern Byways has found a cool little packing tool to get you started.

She She Me walks you step by step through each aspect of your closet.  From accessories to winter coats, she’s got a storage answer that won’t break the bank!

It’s A Jungle Out There

Now, don’t hate me, but I’ve never really had a thing for animals. When I was younger, trips to the zoo rated along the scale of “fun things to do” next to “picking up after myself”. I never begged Mommy for a pony or even a puppy, and I definitely was not amused when my parents scheduled my tenth birthday at a horse ranch

However, that’s not to say that I’m against all things animal. I totally love leopard prints, avian-inspired jewelery, faux fur and kitschsy animal figurines. I’m not alone in my lusting either; the Glam Network’s got a few wild suggestions of their own.

cindy.jpg
Sometimes leopard print can look tawdry (i.e. on a tube minidress or let’s say, pantsuit), but sometimes it can look omg so gorgeous. Cindy Crawford shows us how it’s done. (Dana’ Dirt)

tiger.jpg
That’s not to say that I’m playing favorites. This tiger print clutch would add so much street cred to a delicate summer outfit. (The Bag Lady)

But sometimes, it’s wise to leave the fur on the animals. Christian Louboutin rarely does wrong, but I dare say that this may be one of them. (The Purse Blog).

Wow. This paper cut is absolutely breathtaking (and I don’t even mind the fact that I’m sooo squeamish about jellyfish). (Layers Upon Layers)

Wouldn’t this be a cute gift for baby? (Baby Gadget)

It’s a dog eat dog world out there. Can these fashion industry hopefuls survive in the concrete jungle? The Fashionista Diaries premier tomorrow at 9:00 on the Soap Opera Network. (Style Crunch)

Trends for Fall

Grey is the new black! Pile on the bangles! Volume is in; skinny is out! If you’re anything like me, deciphering fashion trends can sometimes be a pain in the butt. If grey is the new black, what is the new grey? What kind of bangles? I thought volume was always in!

However, thanks to the Glam Network, predicting style trends doesn’t have to be as opaque as predicting the weather. Here’s some fashion help for those looking towards the fall.

netaporter.JPG
A great place to get started is at my favorite shopping site ever, NET-A-PORTER. They’ve got a handy guide to fall’s hottest trends. (Thanks for the heads up, Fashiontribes!)

Accessories are the one thing that everyone can agree is a MUST for livening up your fall wardrobe. She Finds suggests colorful socks, and Kathryn over at The Budget Fashionista wants you to consider fedoras.

Have your own personal style prediction? Make yours over in the comments section of Kiss Me Stace. Who knows? Maybe you’ll see your divinations on the runway come NY Fashion Week this September!

Style for Laptops

When I was picking out my laptop for college, I was looking for a few specific things. Number one, it had to have minesweeper (sorry Macs, this rules you all out). Number two, it had to be light enough to shlep around campus. And three, it had to be pretty. Maybe this makes me the archetypal tech-clueless girl, but hey, with all the (almost daily) advances in technology, most laptops’ hard drives, processors, and image resolutions are up to par. I settled on a beautiful, glossy black HP that handles all my needs (while providing me hours of entertainment via Minesweeper).

But hey, style doesn’t have to end there. The Glam Network has more ideas to help glam up my laptop.

pink.jpg
If you’re looking for a super-girly and super-cheap laptop, look no further than this pink Woolsworth laptop. With a pricetag of £399, it’s hard to say no. (Shiny Shiny)

giles.jpg
Looking for something a little more edgy? Try this graphic Asus as designed by Giles Deacon. However, this one is a bit more expensive at £1,499. But hey, designer duds don’t come for cheap, right? (Shiny Shiny)

silk.jpg
Wanna protect that bad boy of yours? Why not wrap it up in this luxe silk and leather case. It’s too bad they don’t make this in a larger, sleeping-bag size. :( (Shiny Shiny)

leather.jpg
If that’s a little too Princessy for you, maybe this Bodie and Fou leather zip bag is more your style. (The Bag Lady)

green.jpg
However, my personal favorite carrier is this funky brocade laptop bag by Abbi New York. (Popgadget)
